Hi all,
I am starting to play around with animations using Poser 7.
I find the program frankly unreliable and very buggy. For example, when I move to a specific frame and start to adjust a character using the Parameter dials, it is quite common for Poser 7 to do strange things to part of the characters body, like change the scale, apply morphs, apparently change the joint parameters etc. All these weird changes are completely not undoable, the only way to get back is to reload a previous copy of the pz3 file. the problem seems to get worse the further into the animation I get (or maybe the longer the file has been open). The wierd effects are not reproducable.
So, I was thinking about trying to make animations in DAZ Studio.
Has anyone got experience of using DAZ Studio for making animations? How would you rate DAZ Studio and Poser 7 in regard to making animations.
Thanks for any replies,
Isaacnewton

You didn't say Poser 7 SR3, implying perhaps you're not running all the bug fixes.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I've used both and I rate them about the same. Though note I'm less than an animation featherweight. Their interfaces are different but nothing I couldn't understand/translate... eg Poser has the animation pallete+graph and walk designer, DS has Puppeteer http://www.daz3d.com/i/software/daz_studio3/popup?s=features&p=puppeteer.php and/or you could add 3rd party aniMate and aniMate Plus. A bit apples and oranges but I like both shrug Depends on how ingrained you are in the Poser animation tools...
I have not had those wierd effects you mentioned happen in Poser 7. My animations aren't huge though. http://aprilsvanity.com/video/index.php earlier two are Poser, more recent DS.
If I were you (and had time) I'd try to to isolate the problem causing those wierd effects ... all apps have their "quirks" and you'll just be swapping one set for another lol ... Unless you had other reasons or just had time on your hands to get into DS. As I said, I like both! :)

None of the problems you Describe are related to lack of updates or "bug fixes"
I am still using POSER6
feel free to download my FREE online video tuttorials covering the basics for poser animation

I did this entire animation in Poser 7 Pro with no problems. i used 'Go figure' animate for the animation tracks in Daz Studio, saved them as a pose file then set up and rendered all of the animations in Poser 7 Pro. cheerio lululeeLittle_Dragon posted Sun, 13 December 2009 at 3:42 PM

Studio does not offer inverse kinematics, ragdoll and rigid-body physics, dynamic hair, a walk designer, or basic keyframing tools (like a proper keyframe graph or dope sheet). Unlike Poser's cloth room, its cloth-simulation plugin works with only a limited selection of store-bought items, and DAZ has posted no timeframe or revealed any progress concerning the release of the creation tools. Its material system has improved over the years, but still isn't quite as flexible and readily accessible for animation as Poser's.
There's no easy way to import background videos, either, so even if the keyframing tools were matured, it's unsuitable for rotoscoping.
On the other hand, Studio's AniMate and Puppeteer plugins provide user-friendly interfaces for the novice animator, and Studio's built-in lipsync is superior to Poser's Talk Designer.

If your changing morphs on your dharacter somewhere down the time line and then you roll back it will revert to the original setting you started with Then as you run the animation preview the character will do strange things
,if in fact thats the problem your having,
Yes its a bit buggy but perservire and the results will be good,as some one just said try to isolate the problem.

One other thing to look at is to open the "graph" next to the parametre dial and watch what happens to the curve as you make your changes--you will probably find the solution in there.
to reset the curve just delete the key frames on the line and this will reset the morphs.
