hi, with all the hype with the movie and all i wanted to try (probably fail) making morphs for M4/V4 to resemble as much as posible the avatar guys.. the main problem for me seems to be both the nose and the ears.. any chance this can be done without having to go into something like zbrush? or anyone working on this?
the rest seems relatively "simple" 10ft tall guys.. really thing but strong at the same time.. the tail i have not been able to get a good look at it yet but with the creature creator tails i'm sure something could be done..
so what do you guys think?

Within reason, I don't see why you couldn't use the morph tool. Zbrush would be an excellent choice since its designed to handle that sort of workflow.
Even though the edge flow is basically humanoid, you're going to run into problems especially at the ear. Avatar ears are set much higher on the head than Mil4's, so the edges surrounding them might become "scrunched". Not a good thing as far as texturing / displacement is concerned.
Eye sockets / nose bridge will be tricky but not impossible.

how can we do a long neck and long arms and legs? they are not just skinny. their body looks streched.
ears are very high up. and the eyes are bigger .
-blue- posted Tue, 15 December 2009 at 5:01 AM
well they are streched, but they don't seem like just legs, arms and all that the rest of the body is too, it porbably won't be exact but by making them really tall it sort of could be faked, the neck i have no clue.. im no good with this kind of things as i said i probably will fail at it, but the character itselfs are cool enough to give it a try.. if anyone that actually knows what they are doing wants to do it go ahead, this is more of an experiment for me.. maybe create a morph dials if thats even possible to strech them.. i have no idea to be honest.. but it would be nice to have..

If only I knew how to extract the morphs.
PilotHigh posted Tue, 15 December 2009 at 2:22 PM
edit: this was done in P7 with V4 ++ and creature creator and a bought texture
milanautica posted Tue, 15 December 2009 at 2:31 PM
You all did great work on her, wow!
I also played a bit with V4 and this came out. It's an early progress, maybe I find some time to work more on her...
It makes fun to work on such a different being!
Excited about other versions...

Where did you get the wonderful texture?
milanautica posted Tue, 15 December 2009 at 3:13 PM
It's a merchant ressource texture from MaskEdit. I just turned it blue and made the rest in photoshop with brushes.
PilotHigh posted Tue, 15 December 2009 at 3:54 PM
I searched thru his store here but I don't see it. Do you recall the name of the set?
milanautica posted Tue, 15 December 2009 at 4:01 PM
@PilotHigh:
It's this one
PilotHigh posted Tue, 15 December 2009 at 4:07 PM
So I take it that you put the stripes on yourself in Photoshop?
edit: did you put the stripes right on the texture or use a PS layer that you could give out?
milanautica posted Tue, 15 December 2009 at 4:12 PM
yes, the stripes and the sprinkles on her face. I also changed the color of her inner ears. The stripes where made very quick just on her head and upper torso. I hope to find some time to make her whole body.
edit: It's a new ps layer. I used a very dark blue, painted some stripes and in layer options I selected "soft light" and adjusted the transparency.

I guess their blood contains cyanoglobin, so they go red when you boil 'em. Kinda like Smurfs.

not sure i got everything, i've probably missed so many details, but it's simply beautifull, the plants, the animals, these lovely blue guys.. i really hope that they have an extended version because the 2h30min kind of feel short.. but it does give you the feel that you are there.. not sure how the 3d version is but it could be crazy.. i just hope that the plants, creatures and na'vi all hit poser at some point
