I've created some mt5 files for an upcoming product, but I'm wondering if I can change the version number from 8 (I'm using Poser 8) down to 5. Will that stop error messages in Poser 5 and Poser 6?

Yes

Yep, I always change the version on my files before I give them away for instance ;o). I do it for prop files too.

I generally set mine to 4.01 - something magical about that number.

OK good to know. I was going to set it to 5 but 4.01 works.

For MT5 files as long as it's 5 or less you won't get the message after all you can't use MT5 in Poser versions before 5. One bad thing about using 4.01 is it use 3 more characters than 5

HAHA. Good point. Well I don't want an error message when someone tries to apply the MAT file, and I think that would fail product review for me anyway, so ... I'm changing it!

Why 4.01? 4 should work too, doesn't it?

A Merchent Utility was available to set version numbers and I believe it used 4.01 as the version code. 4,5,6,7 all seem to work. For a mt5 file I would use 5 since poser 4 and propack dont have material files.

I include pz2 variants of the mc6 and mt5 files, and I was always told to use 4.01 for the pz2s.

Changing the version number will stop the error message, but you might want to double check and make sure that it actually works the way that you want it to in whatever version you are setting it to. There are some material room differences between the versions, especially 8 and 5. Just saying.

Hmmm ... Does that mean by changing the number down, it might disable settings in Poser 8? I don't like that possibility. :/

No, but it does mean that you can make a material the won't work the way it should in Poser 5 but the user may not be aware of that because there is no version warning.

Ah Ok. That makes sense. I'm putting Poser 8 as a product requirement, but I think it's worth the time to just change on those version numbers just in case for Poser 6 and 7 users.
