I use poser pro on Windows Vista 32 Bits and I am experiencing the strangest problem with my "Props". They are stored in Runtime->Library->Props, where I have 138 folders with various contents. Suddenly, I notice that some of them are greyed out when I attempt to sue them from inside Poser. I tried simply deleting the offending props, only to find that, when I restart Poser, some OTHER props now appear greyed out. I attempted to delete those newly greyed-out props, but then yet other props now become greyed-out. When I tried to empty out all folders and place them back one by one, testing them in Poser in between, all sorts of weirs things happen. The first 69 folders show up fine, but adding more either greys out some specific props or even the whole props option in the Poser menu. Attempts to isolate any "guilty" props individually lead to strange effects where the removal of one folder makes another one get greyed-out in the menu and so forth.
This is driving me crazy! Can anyone help me out?

Thx for the Interest,
Not the ones that got greyed out. When I try to delete tose, then others get greyed out. Sometimes, the whole "Props" option in Poser gets greyed out, in which case I cannot use any of them.

This sounds similar to a problem BagginsBill addressed in another library thread. Is your indexing service for the computer turned off? If you turn it off, a whole legion of problems with Poser go away, and your computer runs faster to boot.

I have turned off the indexing service in my computer. I have also tried backing up my Runtime folder, uninstalling Poser, reinstalling Poser, and then copying the backed up Runtime folder into the new installation. None of those things worked, though there was a change in which props get greyed out.

How do you turn off the indexing service?
Wyart posted Sun, 24 January 2010 at 8:09 PM
To tun off the indexing service, go to "My Computer", select the drive, right click with the mouse, select "Properties" and then go to the "General" tab, where you see an option for the Indexing. After that, deselect the option, choose to apply the changes to all subfolders when the next screen asks. It takes some 10-20 min to finish.

Well the guy above, taught it very well!!! But sadly my problem still remains!

This is Poser Pro. I didn't know Poser Pro could gray out library items.
You should contact SM. I doubt any of us have heard of this.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I don't use Vista, but could it be a permissions issue?

I forgot to mention that the problem in question ONLY affects V4 Props.
As to the "permissions issue", I'm not quite sure what that means.
Thx all who are trying to help.

if it's only V4, then perhaps contact DAZ...
Just curious (and probably off-base...;) but do you have any folder permissions set? Maybe running Poser as Administrator? just a thought.

Yeah this is a new one on me also. I didn't know it was possible for pre-Poser 8 library to behave like this at all. You'd best contact Smith Micro support.

When using the drop down menu to select library items there are occasionally entries that are greyed out and consequently unselectable.
However, when using the icons instead, I can select all my library items, regardless of whether or not they were greyed out in the drop down menu.
An example of a grey out menu item is attached. The hair folder is greyed out. Which ones, if any, are greyed out varies with each program launch.

Oh, the menu?! I thought we were talking about icons. I never use that menu, so I always forget it exists.
I suspect that is due to the old Poser's self-imposed liimit of 100 items per branch of any tree in the heirarchy. That's adjustable somewhere isn't it, in preferences? I've long sinced stopped using Poser Pro so I can't remember.

Thank you all for the support!
The problem displayed in the screenshot Snarlygribbly showed is PRECISELY the problem I have. It did help me immensely, because I never thought of navigating using the icons before (duh), and it seems that, through that pathway, all the props seem to work fine.
It would still be great to be able to use the text-based menu, though, for I am used to it. But the workaround with the icons does enable me to work.
I have tried going through the Preferences Menu as pointed out by bagginsbill, but mine is already set on "Never collapse thumbnails", so it does not seem to be it.
Thx again.
