Is there a third party plugin or python script for Vue to make Vue catch up to Bryce in the area of texture mapping options? Bryce has 17 modes and has had them a long time. Vue has only 9.
If not is there plans for more texture mapping options in Vue 8.5 or 9?
I miss the random mode in Bryce.
I use both apps.

Well, the mapping method structures are a bit different in Vue. You have shown only half of the list. For each setting in Vue you can define "automatic", "flat", "faces", "cylindrical", "sperical", "Torical" and for each combination you then can define the method "none", "bilinerar", "normalized" and "bicubic". Then you have displacement and normal mapping (not sure about those in Bryce, I have not installed it). Not to forget all the settings about shadow reception, casting, individual quality levels etc.
One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

You said I'm only showing half the Vue list. I'm using V8C.
Maybe V 8 infinite has more or maybe the rest are hidden in the different structure you mention.
Where's the other half?
That list I showed was a screen shot of exactly what I saw. I cropped both shots to show only an obvious vertical list of modes. I did not cut the Vue list short.

C means Complete I guess. There you should have - under the popup list you metioned a lower half wit hall the settings I mentioned. Right lower corner of the color tab in the material editor. Not there (I have indeed Infinite)?

However it's good to know there are some more modes with picture mapping ticked.
And yes C is for Complete
And I'll look into the function editor for more.

In the function editor itself, other mapping modes get triggered depending on the type of object selected. There is no "universal mapping fits all" menu in Vue. Its GUI is not set up that way.
Vue likes things to be automatic and assumes imported objects are UV mapped.

But I'll dig into the function editor and search for the other map modes for procedural textures.

If Bryce has so many texture options, why do Bryce textures always end up looking the same?
I can recognize a Bryce texture from a mile away.

It might be because you can recognize a Bryce render from a mile away. I know I can. Renders from DAZ make me look a few more times at them because of the quality of the textures and lighting of DAZ Studio scenes that don't have DAZ content in them. Carrara renders are still easy to pick out and I feel needs to catch up with DAZ Studio.
