Let's have a little fun this month..
Show us photos of signs where you live. It could be an odd sign, a street with a weird name, or a town with a strange name, or a sign that makes you think HUH?
If you want you could also just take a really creative or artistic photo of a sign.

I found a few examples on the web.

My father sent me these photos from out in Oman a few weeks back - i think they fit the challenge (although i will put up my hand and say they are out of date and taken by a relative (with permission reproduced) rather than me).

Wonderful signs. I have tried to get a sign for over 10 years but its on the freeway and there is no place to stop to take it. And slowing down in that spot could get you killed.  And of course, its a small sign to make it more difficult.

Great idea Bruce! My first sign is self explanatory... I just don't know how many people know that crocs are also known as Flatdogs!!!!

This one was also in Swaziland and had Bruce and I tickled pink! It was posted just before crossing a small lake which led one out of a wildlife area. In the end we decided that it is telling trees and plants that they are prohibited to cross the bridge - especially on their own!

With all the snow here in New Jersey, its hard to get out for some NEW sign photos.  Took this "Public Punishment" sign at a local Renaissance Festival a few years back.

Ok, so I should pre-key in those phone numbers on my cell phone, so when I get swept away by that "high velosity flow" I'm sure to call the correct beaurocratic agency so they can dispatch the appropriate governmental department to come fish me out, is that what they are saying???

Shame i didnt have a camera with me the other day but there was a sign in the entrance to Victoria St Station in London on a rather large A-Frame board which was positioned so that it took up about a 1/3 of the width of an already congested chokepoint into the station - so very visible to everyone...  What did it say?

"How you we can improve this station for you? Call 020 ...[etc]"

I just laughed out loud as i walked past it at the irony of it during rush hour. I think someone gave me a funny look as i was by myself.

babuci posted Wed, 24 February 2010 at 4:05 PM

Well, Camels roaming free and in the early hours of the day they do cross the road. Thanks they do run a cross so no accident with them. Very timid animal.

The middle animal is a Wombat.  They moving in the early morning when the sun is not in full blast yet. Later they go back to their borrow away from the heat. They not a fast animal and they have a hard firm body. In the back (bum) they do have a hard plate if you knock on it sound like a wood...lol. If you hit a wombat probably the animal will survive thx for the hard body but make a big damage in a car.

Kangaroo....pure nightmare on the road. Same story, they very active in dusk and early morning and close to sunset. They up all night hopping all over the place looking for food. They hide under the bush far back from the road later in the day. They just grazing along a road side. When they hear a car coming they don't know which way to jump and many times they choose to jump front of the car, unfortunately. Make a huge damage on the car and most likely the animal will suffer fatal injury. It is a law in australia if we hit a mamma kangy we have to check the pouch for the joey (baby kangy) . Harsh but we have to kill it unless the baby died too in the impact. The little one can not survive on its own.
I know your wildlife saving instinct cuts in and want to take it to the vet or wildlife resque. They put the poor thing down, not saving it. Don't ask me why not. I would.

Opps talked too much...seeya

MrsLubner posted Wed, 24 February 2010 at 9:29 PM

Wombat... I have seen documentaries on them and they are difficult creatures - they don't seem too bright. :-)  Around here its skunk, raccoon, possum, barn owls, coyote, deer and elk that we watch for but they only have signs for the larger animals that will wreck your car when you hit them...the deer and the elk. :-)
