Excited about this. In upcoming releases they say they will have clothe and a puppeteer system to enhance animation.

Yes, me too. I don't know what a hell those people from DAZ have in mind. Why don't extend the beta for everyone?
bwtr posted Mon, 08 February 2010 at 3:00 PM
The Beta is designed for testing and reporting on.
Seems a bit pointless for people having two year or more old versions reporting on the Beta?

I know, mate. But they extend the C7 Beta for all users (old versions, C5 and C6). Why not the C8? Old costumers opinions are useless?
bwtr posted Mon, 08 February 2010 at 4:10 PM
I guess you know why then!
Everyone was reporting on things not related to the last versions updates?
(My guess!)

I don't believe all C7 users are capable to found and report bugs either. But I'm not excited about this Beta . The "C8 Bug Thread" posted by DimensionTheory at the DAZ Forum already killed my curiosity... ;)
Cheers!

A lot of posts but are there really only 2 bugs reported? And one of them was a continuing C7 one? Pretty good for a beta

My big question is if they finally deliver a cloth engine. It was promised in 6 but never arrived. It wasn't even mentioned in 7. Now they promise it again. If they deliver and it is actually useable I will consider upgrading from 6 to 8. Of course what was delivered in Studio is a joke.

Yes, if you looking only for those damn content bugs.
Never mind, I'm jumping to Blender, anyway. I'm sick of this stupid DAZ Carrara "progress".
Cheers!

I am a Blender fan also.
Look forward to you showing us, here, the things that Carrara can do in your Blender efforts to simulate.

Check it out here if you like. (It's slightly dirty)
ren_mem posted Tue, 16 February 2010 at 10:21 AM
Many experienced users in versions prior to C7. Having C7 is irrelevant to identifying bugs. I would not expect a real cloth solution, however, the Bullet physics engine I do believe is the way to go and will allow some functioning in this direction. Yet to see a good cloth sim w/ Bullet, but probably on par w/ Poser at least. Cloth is less important than a decent physics foundation.

My first posted cararra render was done in c8. The render time on this one really surprised me. I thought I'd be off watching tv while I waited, but it was done in 5 minutes.

Great work guys! So far C8 is shaping up to be one of the fastest renderers around!
On the negative side, I'm running into some stability issues with it now; lock-ups during the pre-render calculations. This IS a beta build, so hopefully DAZ irons out the bugs!
Madbat posted Thu, 25 February 2010 at 3:52 PM
Yeah, I get quite a bit of those too, but I expect that. I'm also not running a prime graphics machine either, so I run into memory and cpu issues. Anyone render any sunbeams/godlights? I tried for that on that render but got nothing. I'd be interested to know what atmosphere settings were used.
Soooo.....anyone got $3000 to spare for a new pc?
Drat!
jt411 posted Thu, 25 February 2010 at 4:30 PM
Hi Madbat,
There's a thread in the DAZ Carrara forums about the sunbeams; they're tricky to set up-it's all done in the Realistic Sky editor. I did get 'em to work eventually...
I'm getting the same stability issues on a cheap PC and on my badass workstation. (I really only spent $800 on it!)
I'm surprised how fast C8 renders on both machines, but the 64Bit version definitely has the edge.
I'm looking forward to the next beta release with the Bullet Physics Engine for soft/rigid dynamics!
Madbat posted Thu, 25 February 2010 at 5:09 PM
I have a dual core, but I'm running only 4gb memory and win xp, so till I gwet Win 7 and more ram, I'm stuck with basically 1 processor.
I'll have a look at the daz forum for the thread, thanks! I haven't popped in there for a week.
when's the next beta coming out I wonder?
Pedrith posted Thu, 25 February 2010 at 8:25 PM
Hi. I don't have the beta and don't have the time at the moment to test it, but was hoping somebody might be able to answer question regarding the camera. I've been learning Daz Studio and the camera can be set to depict different formats (4:3, 16:9) and displays a box showing the render area. As I plan to use both Carrara and Daz Studio (for my project) I was wondering if the new version has the same camera setup. I hope so as it would really help me match things up.
Sincerely,
David
jt411 posted Thu, 25 February 2010 at 8:34 PM
Hi Pedrith!
Carrara can currently do what you need!
You can specify whatever render dimensions you'd like and the production frame will re-size accordingly.
Honestly, when the time comes, you'll be able to get a lot more done if you use Carrara by itself and cut DS out of the equation. DS's Puppeteer controls are on their way to C8 I believe too :)
bwtr posted Thu, 25 February 2010 at 9:14 PM
D/S and Poser are really only plugins--not comprehensive 3D apps like Carrara.

Madbat posted Thu, 25 February 2010 at 9:22 PM
To be fair, I use Daz 3 quite a bit. While it's not a modeler or landscape editor like Cararra, it's handy for putting together a scene, and the light and shader systems aren't bad at all. Poser rigs which Daz doesn't, and neither cost as much as Cararra, which is good for the hobbyist on a budget, like me. I got lucky and picked Cararra up on sale for less than half price at the right time, otherwise I wouldn't be enjoying it right now.
But, jt411 is right, Cararra does everything D|S does and more. I know I'll be using Daz less as I get to know C7/8 more. It would be really nice if C did a better job importing D|S scenes. so far all I ever manage to get is a pair of boots. I'd love to re-render all my D|S scenes in C8 to see the difference.
bwtr posted Fri, 26 February 2010 at 1:47 AM
DAZ Studio may not rig but Carrara does.

Just to clarify

Madbat posted Fri, 26 February 2010 at 2:04 AM
Yes, I should have clarified:
Daz doesn't rig without the plugin, whereas poser will. Cararra models and rigs. I wish It exported rigging though, that would be handy for sharing with poser/Daz users. If you want to make something rigged for all three apps, your still looking at using multiple apps, one to create, and another to rig and texture for Poser/Daz use. One app to handle all three would be nice.

have anybody found further development related to rigging in C8?
I can not noticeable any different to C7. :-(

rDogg posted Sun, 16 May 2010 at 5:56 PM
I have a couple of quick questions on the C8 64 bit Beta install - it is asking to install in c:program filescarrara8 which would normally be ok, but I am running a Quadcore with 8GB of ram running Win 7 64 bit. Normally, when programs install they default to c:program files(x64).
Does anyone know the reason for this?
The install program does allow me to obviously choose a different destination folder, but something about this prompting did not sit well so I did not install the beta.
Also, has anyone encountered serious problems with the C8 beta requiring a re-install. The Quadcore I am using is my main system for work, so while part of me really wants to test C8's 64 bit render engine, I don't want to have to reinstall Win 7 again.
Thank you in advance,
rDogg
Madbat posted Sun, 16 May 2010 at 6:46 PM
I have yet to install the last two betas successfully. It tries to write to the correct programs directory [(x86) is my non 64 bit program directory] but simply cannot write to the directories it creates. I can't change permissions to make them writable at all. But so far I haven't heard anything good about the last two beta releases, so I went back to C7 pro.
rDogg posted Sun, 16 May 2010 at 8:25 PM
Thank you for the feedback Madbat. I will stick with C7 Pro until the C8 is finally released and they have hopefully worked out all of the installation bugs.

The way it's looking is that the C8 release is going to be full of bugs. The last two beta releases were supposed to be THE pre-release, but they wound up even more unstable than the initial beta's were. I've beta tested my share of software over the last 13 years, and I'm not soaking money into this from what I've seen so far. I may stick with c7pro and save up for vue or some such.
