I started a thread a week or so ago asking for some help Getting Poser 8 off the ground,It's still on the Tarmac but i realized something, In My old PC that had Poser 7, I had WinRar to use for unzipping the content and installing it into Poser 7 with no hassles what-so-ever, But, In My new PC, I did'nt have either Winzip or WinRar installed, I thought Windows 7 Pro was gonna handle all that and,Just like a Lazy baggage handler, It would take it out of the car, But would'nt take it to baggage check-in then onto the plane!
Was This the Missing piece to the puzzle???,I'm Still Figuring out how to get Poser 8 up-and-running but trying to get the content in there was driving me nuts; Can you guys tell me if this is the case and also what unzipping utility software that you use??,Should I stick with WinRar??,Again, Many thanks for your help and input.

I've used both, but I've come down on the side of winzip, the latest versions of Winzip will open rar files.

Windows can natively handle zip files only but I found it to be too slow for large archives.7-zip is a good alternative and works well for rar and zip formats. It can also handle other less common compression algorithms.

It doesn't hurt to have them all, but Winzip is my favourite & has been for at least a decade.

I use an ancient copy of UltimateZip (free) in Windows... and unarchive all my rar files in Linux.

flyerx has the right idea. 7zip is the way to go.

I think that Winrar can be set up to Unzip (there's a lot more options for zip files), but I don't think that Unzip does that many different ones (but then I'm still using Winzip 8...;)

I used winrar for years, used winzip until I got tired of the nag screens, never got around to registering it, but when I found 7 zip I found the one I'll use from now on. Has favorite folders, does every format under the sun and it's free with no nag screens.

If it works I'll try anything! But I've been a winzip person for a long time.
kawecki posted Sun, 07 February 2010 at 8:21 PM
WinRar works fine, it opens zip, rar, 7z, tar, gz, ace, arj, Poser's crz, ppz, ..., iso, bz2 and more.
I only had problems with some bz2.
7z I haven't experimented, yet..

poser compressed files are basically zipped. anything that can open a Zip can open them.

Poser files are not "zipped", are "gzipped" (*.gz)

I ran into the same problem...bought the latest version of WinZip mainly for zipping Poser products. Was afraid my old version wouldn't work with the new Win 7 64 bit system. Wish I'd tried it first; this new version is a pain in the butt--don't like it at all. Still have WinRar and will use that whenever possible.

Repeat after me...

Izarc is free, does everything Winzip or Winrar will do, and has a better GUI than 7Zip (imho).
