I have a scene with many elements in it.
When I load it I get a popup window that says Please locate "NO_MAP"
Obviously one of the elements is missing something but how can I find out which one so I can find the correct reference?
Thanks!
Robin.

A "NO_MAP" reference actually means that there's no map connected, so Poser shouldn't be looking for anything. There are many ways to create incorrect "NO_MAP" references using text editors though, so you'll either remove that reference with a text editor or one of the programs to do that.

thanks. I have not edited the scene file but it sounds like I am going to have to edit it to fix the problem :-(
I just looked at the file and these reference come under the prop "GROUND"
Should I remove the whole prop or just teh lines like:
textureMap NO_MAP
bumpMap NO_MAP
reflectionMap NO_MAP
transparencyMap NO_MAP
and also under "shader tree" section, references like:
file NO_MAP
Thanks again!

example
textureMap NO_MAP
bumpMap NO_MAP
reflectionMap NO_MAP
transparencyMap NO_MAP
ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1
reflectionStrength 1
that is a valid prop file , make sure there isnt one in quotes.

This is a pz3 file, when I look at it it has dozens of lines with NO_MAP in it.
They all look similar, how do I find out which one Poser has a problem finding?
Robin.

I would open it in say wordpad , and use the FIND option to look for NO_MAP , see if there is any odd punctuation
what version of Poser ?
rpeatfield posted Sun, 14 February 2010 at 1:54 AM
thanks.
I am using Poser 8. There are hundreds of NO_MAP references in teh scene file - it's going to take a long time to look through every one of them :-(
Oh well, here goes...
Thanks,
Robin.

I doubt you'll find a bad one. This is just a random bug I've seen. I run into it a lot because I have many generic shaders with blank image map nodes. I load these and then fill in the image later.
Saving a scene with one of these in it is very likely to trigger the erroneous request for NO_MAP.
Also, be aware, since you're looking in the file manually, that every node mentions NO_MAP, even if that type of node is not an Image_Map or Movie node. I don't know why Poser writes all this useless info. Very strange.

I think Poser throws out the NO_MAP error when it's written in quotes. So NO_MAP is ok but "NO_MAP" generates the error message. So do a search on "NO_MAP" and remove the quotes, then it should load ok.

Thanks, I searched for NO_MAP and "NO_MAP" so and there are none with quotes so it's not that problem.
bagginsbill's decription sounds like what I am experiencing.
Everything was working fine, I have been adding props and characters etc. to my scene over the last several days - then all of a sudden, when I open my scene now, poser asks to find NO_MAP
Thanks again for all the suggestions, I will keep on investigating how to fix this :-(

when Poser pops up the message to manually locate the map, you can press cancel and Poser will skip it and continue with the rest. It should not be a fatal error.

Yes that's correct, it's just annoying that every time I open this file up it stops and asks. It would be nice to resolve it but maybe it's something I jusy have to live with :-(
On the other hand if I find out what caused it I will update the thread.
Well, back to it now!
Thanks,
Robin.

I've wondered if adding a file to the main runtime textures called NO_MAP, or perhaps NO_MAP.jpg, would solve it. I don't see this error too often so I can't tell if I've fixed it even if I try.

This may make things worse, but it's just a thought - have you tried actually locating a file when asked for NO_MAP? Even a little one pixel image would be enough: make one and save it in the root of your textures folder for future use. But do try it out on a copy of the scene first, in case it breaks something.

Sorry BB. I took too long typing my reply. Got half a dozen Rendo windows open right now. Got to remember to refresh before posting. :)

A nice bright pink or somethong image would make finding where that image is being used :)
