is it worth it to go from Vue 6 Studio Pro to 8 Studio Pro?
I have less than 2 hours to make up my mind

I wish I could do that right now but finances aren't up to it.  At the end of the month I will be doing the side-grade from 6 Pro Studio to 8 Pro Studio and I'll be buying the EcoPainter module to go along with it.

Yeah, I think it's worth it.

I got it but my retirement doesn't come in until next week.

The EcoPainter is a must.  I fell in love with that capability when I was playing with the Vue 7 PLE but I already had Vue6 Pro Studio and they didn't offer that module at the time.

I don't need wind for what I do in Vue but I do need everything else - well, maybe not the RenderCow thingy but everything else.

Ugh - still waiting for a big client's check and I'm in the same boat!
I'm going from 6 Infinite to 8 Infinite - got the email for $100 off, making the upgrade $349.
I could actually afford it if it would have gotten here on time.

I didn't have the $$ to go from 6 Pro Studio to 6 Infinite and now there's no upgrade path so I'll have to go to 8 Pro Studio and, down the road a bit, sidegrade over to 8 Infinite but it'll happen it good time.

I took advantage of the V6I - V8I upgrade offer last week.

Initial thoughts are that the main programme runs noticeably faster, and that the renderer is a LOT slower!!  But then I am aware that my lap-top is a long way behind the recommended spec for V8I, so will probably mostly stick with V6I until I can upgrade.

From what I've seen though, definitely a worthwhile upgrade if you've got the hardware for it!

My recomendation for any software upgrade to skip a version. 6 to 8, 5 to7 to 9 ...etc
Same applied to all other (phtoshop, Maya ...etc), in many cases you still qualify for upgrade pricing. If you wait for 2-3 versions different, then upgrade cost may jump up.
If you going to upgrade every version, then maitnance plan best chose.

I wanter to upgrade from 6 to 7 but I'd lost my job and didn't have the $$ so now I'm going from 6 to 8 and will then sidegrade to 8 Infinite.

Oddly enough, I am a long time Vue user, and held off upgrading. Ive been using Vue 6 Infinite for quite some time now.

I upgraded to Vue 8 Infinite and, while I haven't exploited all of its new features yet, it seems much more productive in many ways. Also a plus for us is that Vue 8 supports native Shade imports again - we just released Shade 10, and you can bring native content into Vue 8 now quite nicely.

Also - the ability to import COLLADA based content in Vue 8 Infinite is really good. I passed it it a really complex model and it opened it just fine.

Just wait for 9.  I'm waiting for Vue Infinite 10 and Windows 8

The custom now a days for software companies is to upgrade all the time & make as much money as possible with each version.  Vue even does incremental upgrades charging for .5 versions making it even worst. They are basically charging for bug fixes introduced by the new version!

Windows 8 is slated for the summer of 2011.

These are tough economic times and the bloated software companies are taking advantage of the casual consumer.  My advice,  hold on to your money until better economic times where the money is actually worth more than it is now.

If I wait for 9 I'll have to start over again.  Even though I missed on the $149 price for the upgrade, I can still upgrade for $199 and then wait a while for either the Vue8 Infinite sidegrade or the move to 9 Pro Studio.
