can I just copy the content from my poser 7 runtime folder in to poser 8 or do I have to re-install all my content?

You might be best to ADD the Poser 7 runtime as an external runtime than to merge it.
If you merge it copy the contents of runtime/geometries runtime/textures and runtime/libraries over.

You can add Poser 7 to your Poser 8 library .... i dont remember how its done but its how i did it .... i think its add library or something - so you dont have to move or copy all your stuff from P7 to P8 and take up extra space.

can I do that and deinstall poser 7?
geep posted Fri, 26 February 2010 at 1:53 PM
In the Library Palette ...
On the upper right hand side ... Look for the File Folder with the Plus (+) sign and click it.
Now ... browse to your Poser 7 folder and click on it to add it to Poser 8.
And, ... that's all there is to it.

P.S. If you deinstall Poser 7, you might lose the Poser 7 "Runtime"
If you do this ... you will lose it.
Here's what to do ...
Make a new Folder in your root directory (NOT in the Poser 7 folder) named "P7Runtime" (or what ever you want).
Copy (or Move) the "Runtime" folder from your Poser7 directory to the new folder.
Now, you can deinstall Poser 7.
Now, "Add" (in Poser 8) the new folder you just created as a new Runtime in Poser 8.
Remember ... "With Poser, all things are possible, and poseable!"

well no this is assuming you want to keep poser 7 on your system ...
i use both because poser 8 library system annoys me - i use its render engine for high res renders only ....
if you want to uninstall poser 7 then yes you will need to move your content over to Poser 8.

Okay so then that leads me back to the first question can I just move the content from one runtime folder to the other or do I have to re install it all?

No, if you have the P7 "Runtime" folder (complete) ... saved outside of the Poser 7 folder ...
Just open Poser 8 and link it ("Add") it while you are in the Poser 8 Library.
("Add" = the Folder icon with the Plus (+) sign)

But I don't want poser 7 on my computer any more

Just save the Poser 7 "Runtime" folder somewhere (NOT in the Poser 7 folder)
Now deinstall Poser 7 ... Poser 7 ALL GONE ... (but the P7 content is saved)
Now go into Poser 8 Library and click the "Add" folder (Runtime that you saved from Poser 7)
Now you can access all your Poser 7 content inside the Poser 8 Library.

Ah great Idea ^_^ thanks

In case you have never added an external library before...
When you add a new library, you choose the parent folder of the Runtime folder. The name of this parent folder will become the Poser display name for the new Library.
So it would be a good idea, in your case, to copy the Poser 7 Runtime into a new folder called, say, "Poser 7 Content".
Sorry if you already got past that point....
