Sorry if this has already been brought up....

I just got Vue 8 Xstream and when I import an .obj, I get the object but not the textures.

The main thing I'm trying to import is some of the castle creator buildings for Poser.... but I can't get any .obj to import with textures.

Thanks for any help

Vue opens pz3. files, why not try that direction ?

Check the transparency tab I think I had this problem on some items and I noticed that the transparency maps came in at 0 instead of 100per cent( or the other way around LOL!! can't quite remember now!!!

OBJ gives more manual control of how Poser models are rendered in Vue than importing as PZ3.  So Vue needs to have the JPG/BMP maps from Poser re-applied manually to the OBJ model as texture map materials.

I have the Castle Creator set but they are in 3ds format, not obj.

I already have them saved as .vobs as I've had the set for years, but I did just retry loading one of the 3ds parts into Vue 8 and it came in with textures applied without any problems.

Make sure you have all the texture maps in the same folder as your objects - that could be the cause of your missing textures?

Not that it is relevant, but i am an avid Vue/Cinema 4D user, and i have given up on Poser long ago. I do however use DazStudio for ALL my exporting needs. all the materials export perfectly with the shown settings, and the maps are all collected in one conveniant place for resizing if necessary. This is all i use DazStudio for, but it is free so it is well worth it. And it took Poser completely out of the equasion.

If you export in obj from Poser, make sure Poser writes the .mtl file (material library), if Vue doesn't detect the mtl file, it won't find the textures. This is also valid for any obj export from any package.

An mtl file does get created by exporting .obj from poser but when I import the .obj, vue doesn't ask for the mtl file and the object comes into vue as black.

Not all OBJ formats are the same, unfortunately. I have to tell Vue 9.5 where my texture maps are if I'm not exporting OBJ from 3D-Coat.

I tend to make big poser scenes with a lot of textures so locating them all would not be a viable option for me.

I think the only way I get Vue to use my Poser textures is when I import PZ3 into Vue. I'm using Poser 6 with SkinVue Elite.
