I suffered several crashes, got discouraged and I''ve been away from Poser for almost 2 years. I've decided to give it another go, so I just purchased Poser 8. I was determined not to come running to this forum over every little thing, but here I am.
I bought a new computer with Vista. I am trying to load all my old purchases into the Poser 8, but pkzip no longer works (?) and some Vista adjunct wants to extract the files. I try to unzip them to my Poser 8 folder, but it wants to merge files, and then takes half an hour or more to extract. What gieves?

One thing to watch for: Vista treats anything inside "Program Files" as sort of
like system files, with special permission needed to write.
Poser behaves much better in Vista and Win 7 when it's outside of Program Files.
For instance C:Poser 8.
I think PkZip is obsolete. WinZip and 7Zip are more modern.
And welcome back!

PkZip!!!!! Long gone and forgotten.
Welcome back and good luck. We will be seeing you more often then you think or desire.

welcome back. Try winzip or winrar, both have free versions. I turned off UAC on my vista laptop. Hasnt caused any problems and no runs almost like winxp
.

Welcome back. I'm finding a learning curve with Poser 8 as well. For me the big issue is lighting.

And careful with the firewall. Whatever firewall you use has to allow Poser to do whatever it wants otherwise your library won't work.

I think there's a service release patch for poser 8 too.
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!

If you plan to switch off UAC make sure you've got some really good anti-virus software installed & scan everything executable before you use it. I know most people do that anyway but it's worth repeating as I forgot the other day & had to spend a couple of hours yesterday reinstalling Windows to get rid of a virus.
Oh yeah check out www.blackviper.com/ to get a smoother running Windows, just remember to play "safe". ;)

Thanks guys!
I am quickly remembering the best thing about Poser is the community.
