Subject: Moving Poser 7 Runtime to Poser 8?

I have a lot of 4th gen models (V4, M4, etc) stored in my Poser 7 main runtime, and have now upgraded to Poser 8. Will I need to reinstall all those figures (which were specifically supposed to be placed in my main Poser runtime), or can I just copy the Poser 7 runtime into the Poser 8 runtime?

Also, will this method also enable me to use my old Python scripts in Poser 8?

Thanks in advance,

Guy

dont copy the entire runtime over , theres some bits of python that are version specific.

You can copy runtime/ geometries, runtime/textures, runtime/libraries

and the scropts from runtime/python   but not the dll or lib folders .

Smith Micro says that it is not necessary to install DAZ Content in the main Runtime.

I've had no issue with V4 or her kin outside of the main Runtime (I put them in a folder named Characters).  You do have to fool the installer by creating a blank poser.exe as described in the faq, above.

You should be able to move your old python scripts from P7 to P8.  Python content almost always needs to be in the main Poser runtime.  Personally, I zip up the poserscripts folder before moving anything.  Be sure not to move anything in "DLLs" or "Lib".

Or you could simply link your P7 runtime to P8 as an external runtime.  Everything will work the same.  I have P7, P8, PoserPro and PoserPro 2010 with runtimes linked to each as well as several  other independent externals.

Like hborre, my P6 and 7 runtimes are just linked to the P8 one..

Injustice will be avenged.

That's great! I already have a lot of external runtimes, so I'll probably just link to the P7 one.

Thanks,
