Subject: Why I don't like gamma correction somtimes

I had spent an hour working on a shader for stockings.  I was starting to get kinda happy with the look of it when out of curiosity I loaded up a gamma correction lens in poser and here's what I get.  Talk about argh!!! moments.  :scared:

Looks like I'm back to square 1.  ;)

Okay, this is when we get to ask you which version did you use?

And if it's not the Pro series, why aren't you using gamma correction in your shaders?

'nuff said.

I'm using  poser 7 and I'm not sure how to properly add GC to a shader.  Do I just plug them into the alt diffuse node?

Sometime ago, Bantha put together a gamma correction python script which installs the necessary shader nodes.  They do plug into the alt_diffuse of the root node.  Very convenient and handy.  Used it several times in P8 before PP 2010.  I thought it was posted in the free section, but haven't found it.  I do know it was posted here in the forum last year.  Perhaps, if you get in touch with him, he would be more then happy to release it again.

And BTW, if you do begin to use it on a regular basis for everything, you will need to drop your light intensities.

Okay, I was working from this [ thread](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2738989&page=1) and managed to add GC to the stocking shaders.  However the shader there doesn't seem to work very well with nearly black colors... turns them white.

I'll look up that bantha script.  Also, what are good light levels?

The only workaround besides lighting is I have to turn diffuse down to almost nothing to get something to be dark.   However doesn't this kind of defeat the point of having a separate color node?

Is there something important I'm missing here?

you're double correcting and not linearizing, i think.  the first power function should be to 2.2, not 1/2.2.

Precisely so. Plug the output of Math_Functions_3 directly into Value 2 of Color_Math_4. Change nothing else until you've rendered that!

Edit: well, you could put the Diffuse_Value back to what it was originally...

I strongly recommend bagginsbill's Lightmeter V2 to check and adjust scene light levels.

And where, pray tell, would one find said light meter? (I don't see it on his site.) I would KILL for such a device!

 Thank you!

Now. How does one use it? There are no instructions. :(

Thanks kobalt and Isao... that's what I get for trying to build nodes so late at night.

Much better.  They rendered very well this time.
