Hi. I've generated my UV maps of my space freighter that I made in Wings3d and really lost as to how to give it a weathered, dirty texture, but at the same time, having the sections, paneled to emulate well panels. I'm very new to Photoshop CS4 and texturing in general and really lost on how to create the image I see in my head. I do have a basic understanding of photoshop, as I have used Photoshop Elements 3, for basic editing of my Daz Studio Images.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
David

As long as you understand what you see in the UV map template you can bring that template up in Photoshop and start adding layers to your UV template and painting over it. For instance, let’s say you have UV mapped your freighter using box coordinates. Your template will show the back, front, left and right sides of your freighter so when you layer over the template you can paint over those UV guides. You can then add another layer over your painted layer using a grunge texture and using the overlay mode for that layer and adjust opacity accordingly. Then save as bmp, jpg or whatever format you intend to use giving it a different name. When using that model just call up that saved image as its texture map.

I'd thoroughly recommend the following book for learning a whole lot about texturing:
3D Game Textures. Create professional game art using Photoshop, 2nd edn. Luke Ahearn, ISBN 978-0-240-81148-2
Although the title says 'game textures' it's actually a great book for teaching the texturing of 3D models in general.
