I took a look at some of the Poser galleries and for the most part much of the recent content has been looking really good. I was expecting to see a couple of "Newbie Renders" but I couldn't find many. Is it just me or has the over all posting of Gallery images been better than normal?
Is Renderosity running short on newbies? Or are the newbies just rendering better than those in the past?

It will depend on what faults you are looking to catch. There appears to be beginner's luck for some newbies and then there are those who seem to know exactly what they are doing. For the most part, technical errors seem to predominate a good number of renders. The lack of gamma correction, casting shadows, or no raytracing are still pretty much the standard problem.

Of course the standard hasn't improved, I'm still posting...or at least I will be when this bloody render finishes ;¬)

I think we should remember we were all newbies at one time. :)

How can you tell if no gamma correction was done? What are things in an image that say the Gamma Correction wasn't used?

overly dark shadows, yellow bloom in regular light, and strong contrast in almost purely ambient and even lighting, among other things.

Says in a creaky voice! "I remember back when Willow was running the show we had to turn a crank to manually render every pixel! These youngsters have it easy!"
Skin looked like plastic in the old (Poser2) days- improved a little with P4, now with the right lighting and help from BagginsBill- you can achieve semi-realism. No one will mistake a Poser person close up for a real photo-but it is much closer than the old days.
Do any old times have any Poser 2 or Poser 3 renders to share? :-)

I deleted all of mine and then quit shortly after my first render. I didn't want to have anything to do with Poser after the frustration and the horrible renders. I didn't come back to poser until Poser 6. All I can remember that the models for Poser and for DAZ were really horrible.

If you look in my gallery, you'll see my remapped Poser 4 figures rendering just fine in Poser Pro.

I'm working on it!...;)
Actually, over and over lately I see something better than I can do now, and they say it's their first render...;)
Maybe people are growing up with simpler programs and learning to do art before they tackle Poser...;)

At the TIME they were considered OK. Davidus: I see you joined in 2004- did you ever render anything in 1998? Posette was a big step forward in quality- glad you have been able to keep her going. Then came Victoria....
