I have two quick questions:
First of all, I'm trying to import VRMLs as objects into Vue (PLE version). I know VRML files usually contain animation data in addition to the geometry, texture mapping, etc. Does anyone know if you lose the animation data when importing as an object into Vue?
Also, sometimes while importing a VRML the loading bar will stop then the Vue error report box appears asking me to send an error report (cant send b/c not connected to network) and Vue freezes. Oh, and sometimes the VRMLs import and appear in the object browser but there's no geometry Not sure if this a Vue issue or if the VRMLs are causing this.
Secondly, can anyone explain what motion files are? From the documentation, I've gathered that they are predefined in Vue and are used to animate characters.
Thanks

Vrml? Does this format still exist? Can't answer this one. Motion files are specific files that go along with figures/animals available at C3D. Motion files and the figures can only be bought at C3D. If you want to import your own animated figures, use the collada format.

Lol, ya I guess it still exists. Many programs let you import/export this file type still.
Sorry I'm a newbie. So how would one go about creating motion files? Just use animation software then export as collada format and import into Vue?
My final goal is to import the VRML object and somehow import the animation for it.

You can't create motion files unless you buy the animation ready meshes from Cornucopia. The meshes are editable inside Vue8's skeleton editor, a bit like Poser. You can apply the motion files (or create them) only to these objects. If you want to import an animated object from another app, you need to use the collada export format from said app, and import the collada file in Vue.
I don't know about VRML, sorry.

That explanation helps a lot.
Thanks for the help Bruno!

Quote - I'm trying to import VRMLs as objects into Vue (PLE version).
Which version of VRML? 1.0 or 2.0/'97? And which program created the VRML scene? Vue Infinite prefers 2.0 format.

Hi Shawn
Its a v2.0 VRML file created in Cortona from Parallel Graphics. This file will import into Vue but is blank.
Other files, like one VRML created in Pro Engineer, will give me an error 'Vue cannot read file" when I try to import.
Yet single Pro/E files import just fine. Vue must not like certain VRMLs.

I don't think Vue can import a whole scene, just single wrl models. I'm guessing that Cortona is saving as ASCII and not binary or compressed?
