When I choosed the title of my image to the challenge (Canyon Flight), I did a google search for that title and found a beautiful video at youtube. It seems that the video is used for test graphics cards, but I don't know the original author or which programs were used to make it.

If you haven't seen it before, I think you would like it.

Ahw…this is a wonderful video jrcejaspulido…thanks for sharing it with us. Those aerial “old”…”new” helium driven big ships always look beautiful. And the graphics offers keen perspective scaling. What a thrill!

A thrill a minute for sure...thanks for posting this.. ...

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

It's one of several scenes from the 3d graphics benchmark software 3DMark (the version from 2006 to be precise). The graphics in this video can all be rendered in real time on current-day hardware with ease. Basically all you need is a grahpics card that was high-end back in 2006, or anything better.

My guess is that there is no one single artist behind it but probably a group of artists each specializing in particular things. Some programmers for the 3d engine, some programmers for the directx shaders, people to make the model and textures.

The tech demo for 3DMark 11 is quite nice too:

Thanks for the info Rayraz. The underwater video is also great, and could be an inspiration to the new challenge if finally adbc decided that this will be the topic.

Oh yea i remember Agent Smith once made a really good underwater scene a few years back. I wonder what kind of cool images people would make if there was another underwater themed challenge.
