`Two questions:

  1. When I save my Vue Infinite files the materials seem to change and/or switch the next time I open the file. I am using a lot of objects (Daz, Poser and .obj) and have been applying the materials in material editor in Vue Infinite 8.5. Is there a way to stop this happening?

  2. Is there a way i can make a hole in a sea plane? It is surreal/unrealistic admittedly but I want an image of a hole (like a bore hole) in the sea out of which an object is rising.

Any ideas gratefully received

thanks

john

1.  Give your materials unique names of their own to start with after importing an object.  Often times, Vue will assign the same material name to more than one object in a scene.  Copying/duplicating objects will corrupt material names that will have to be corrected and the proper materials re-applied.

For #2 you could just use a cube as a sea plane and create a boolean difference in it to make your hole then just give it water texture.

Thanks for both answers.

So Shaun, would you recommend  I create a new folder, ,rename the texture .mats I'm using and copy them to this folder? This is possible as i am using a limited range of materials.

As I explained I'm using a range of objects (from Poser/DAZ and elsewhere) and texturing them in Vue Infinite.

Also is there a way to reduce the number of textures on an object. For instance poser files have many objects can I combine/merge these and then apply one texture to the whole object?

Don't change the names of the files.  Just rename the material names in your material list.  I think it's the second icon from the left in the object browser window?  Make sure two or more objects are not sharing the same material name if it's obvious that they are completely different objects, etc.  Otherwise, Vue slaps on the same material.

As for Poser textures, I keep one head and one body texture map and reuse them for the different body parts.  But I choose separately which boy parts have bump maps assigned (if any).  And I'll manually adjust the highlight colors and intensities for each part, depending on what lighting I'm using for a scene.

The eyes and eye brows/lashes are the trickiest, depending on how close the camera is.
