Can anyone point out a good tutorial on the surface replicator?  I have watched a TON of videos on Carrara, but can't recall any on that particular subject.  I need one for free, too.  "Broke the bank" getting Carrara and a few other DAZ goodies...

Oh...   It's Carrara 8 Pro...

Thanks much!

Thanks very much for those links!  They were VERY helpful....

Wow...   I sure hope some one's still watching this thread!

I managed to replicate a field (plane) of grass clumps from a single clump (object) and they are slightly "randomized" well.  My problems how to get them to conform to the terrain. I tried using collision detection, but, as you know, that didn't work...

If this is a big learning curve item, please feel free to pass it by.  Just trying to avoid buying a set of tut disks for a couple more weeks...

Thanks a whole lot!

Kevin

To replicate in a surface you need to use Surface Replicator not only replicator.

That is what I used.  I have a terrain on which I am attempting to make a grassy area.  I used a plane for the template of the area to cover.  All of the "clumps" are on that plane.  I assumed that by utilizing collision detection I could "land" them all on the terrain surface.

THANK YOU....

Kevin

Plane for template?? So they will rest in plane not in the terrain. Do it right in the terrain. The collision detection only work for small obects and not for replicators.

Actually, the location of the hotpoint will determine their position on the terrain.

rexus posted Mon, 28 June 2010 at 4:49 AM

place the  hot point at the bottom of the object and assign the same z value to the surface replicator hot point. it should work

Yes, good point: hot point. To change it position use the CapsLock key.
