Hi everyone. Now that I have a few more coins in the mason jar. I think I am ready to finally move up in the Poser world :) I debated over going to Poser 8, or Poser Pro 2010, and feel Poser Pro offers all the Poser 8 stuff and more.
What I would like is some feedback from some of you on how well it worked out for you, or perhaps did not. I would also ask how it stacks up against D|S, but I have a feeling that would be bias feedback, just as it would be if I was to ask their forum about Poser..haha

PP2010 has everything that Poser 8 has, plus a few - very important - whistles and bells. Feature comparison here. I find built-in Gamma Correction, 64-bit compatibility and network rendering invaluable; if I use Poser 8 at all, it's to do simple stuff while PP2010 is labouring away on a render.
These forums have lots of people discussing problems with PP2010, and very few saying 'no problems here'. People with no problems tend not to post. Not to say that it doesn't have the odd glitch, but these are (a) minor and (b) should be sorted in the first service pack which, hopefully, won't be too long in appearing.
I've tried to get along with D|S but I'm used to Poser's interface and now I never use it, so my advice is to pick whichever suits you. D|S has a free version and you can get a 30-day free trial of Poser 8 at Smith Micro's website.

And just to clarify, many features readily available PP 2010 you will need to purchase as an addon in D/S.

I upgraded from Poser 6 to Poser 7 and stayed with Poser 7 because it was so rock-stable and reliable, and had features that really made Poser 6 yesterday's news. People say there wasn't that much difference, but there really was. Multiple CTRL Z (undo), faster load times for stuff... lots of reasons to stay with Poser 7.
I got Poser 8, but quite frankly was a bit underwhelmed... it did render a bit faster, but the "feature" list wasn't really compelling enough. But I'd heard more and more about Poser Pro 2010 having this that and the other, and when the opportunity arose for a very reasonably-priced sidegrade, I jumped.
It has now officially replaced Poser 7 as the must-have version of Poser. It's been a somewhat costly road to get here, but I still think it was worth getting Poser 8 just to have this programme now and appreciate its stability and incredible features.

I bought Poser Pro 2010 but still use Poser 7 for the most part. I sometimes render in Poser Pro 2010 but only because it renders a little faster. IDL always chokes so it is a pretty much non issue for me.

thanks.
cspear, although i don't think D|S is all that bad. The one thing I have trouble with also is navigation.
hborre, very true..seems lots of products over there have that buy more addon routine.
Robyns and Ghost..Never used P7..still back at 6. I can recall people giving bad on it too against 5. LOL
so I think what I can conclude from feedback here.. Poser pro 2010 sounds like a winner :)

There's nothing wrong with using DS for what DS does best. I use it to get my PZ3's into Bryce. For that it's an invaluable tool!! There's really no other way I would want to get my Poser Scenes into Bryce with at the moment. OBJ imports loose too much flexability! Beyond that? I think Poser Pro 2010 is my new favorite version of Poser. I stuck with Poser 6 all the way through Poser 8 and the original Poser Pro, even though I bought every version, Poser 6 was the most stable on my machine....Til now.

I am not saying anything is wrong with D|S I been using it too for years. You are right for what it does, it does well. Yet again, another vote for Poser Pro 2010. Glad to hear that word "stable" too. That's always a comfort :)

Well it's only crashed on me on a couple of 3DS imports, which I just chalk up to a sloppy 3DS file. When it finds one it can't import I just use Poser 6 to do the importing. Once the import has been made into a PP2 file it loads just fine.
