I currently have 5 and thought of upgrading to 8. On the smithmicro website it only mentions upgrade from 6 or 7. I tried anyway and when it asked for my serial number I submitted the one from my Poser5 app and it was accepted. My question is, before I buy it, will the upgrade take or not? Thanks for any insight.

Poser upgrades are a pricing thing only, you get a full install.

Indeed, full install, it installs in a new folder and you can run Poser 5 and Poser 8 side by side. I've got Poser 5, 6, 8, 7Pro and 2010 Pro installed on my system. I only use Poser 8 myself, the others are there to test content I create with.

Thanks, if that's the case, another 125.00 would get me the sideways move to PoserPro2010? from reading the forums, that may be the way to go!?
thanks

Yes it would. If it's they way to go or not you can only decide. Some have done so, some haven't. It's not profitable for everyone. If you've got a 64bit OS you could really consider it, if you don't have that, but still use a 32bit OS, you wouldn't get the most out of Pro at all. The it will give you Gamma Correction (for some a big deal), but it will render slower.

Poser pro is great. I have been using it since March.
I was one of the SmithMicro contest winners. I was using Poser 8 before that.

If you're ready to go to Poser 8 I highly recommend it. It's not a perfect app but wow, such a massive improvement over all the previous versions. I was never interested in the previous version of Poser Pro and this one is no different, even if I had excess money (which I don't) I'd pass on Pro. You can look through my gallery for some sample non postworked renders all done in version 8.

Oh, Poser 8 is no doubt a HUGE improvement over the previous versions (Poser 4, etc). Poser pro 2010 is basically Poser 8 with a many extras. I was using Poser 8 before I went to pro. I like Poser 8's interface, libraries, content etc. You cant go wrong with Poser 8.

Just want to say thanks everyone for the responses! You have given me some valuable info to consider. I don't have a 64 bit system (yet) so think I'll stay on the side of poser8 for now. Again THANKS!!!

You can upgrade from Poser 4 or later to Poser 8... Poser Pro 2010 requires Poser 6 or later to Sidegrade and Poser Pro or Poser Pro and Poser 8 to upgrade.
