Vue 8 Pioneer is FREE. I carrys a small logo in the right bottom corner. You can upgrade in steps towards the REAL Vue 8. I should think that would be a much better way to do it for DAZ as well. B7 will not be as powerful even as Vue 6. Its a real pitty if DAZ prices B7 out of the market. I really like a lot of the new features in B7.
DAM3D posted Mon, 05 July 2010 at 3:39 PM
I think the highest price I ever saw on Bryce was around $300.00. But I think even that was way high for what it is. Ultimately it's only the artists skill and imagination that are limiting and Bryce 5.5 is free. :)

bobby is right,if daz are going to charge for B7 then it needs to be 100% stable and bug free otherwise why buy it when there are free versions available that are less buggy. I am OK with using a free app with a few bugs but paying a couple of hundred US (about $400NZ) for something that has been rushed through development for the sake of money won't do it for me. DAZ should go with the old saying "do it once and do it right". Just my 2 cents worth.

It is my belief that DAZ is working very hard on B7 and is doing whatever it takes to ensure that it is not a buggy release that has been rushed to the market. Look at how long it has been in development now. I would not call that a rush job.

This is exactly what Drew said:
**Okay, let me clarify a few things here.
We make this offer of buy 6 now and get Bryce 7 when it is released because that's basically what will happen anyway when Bryce 7 is released when you consider our 30-day return policy. If we don't make this offer and release Bryce 7 sometime in the next 30 days, anyone who has purchased it in those 30-days will return it anyway and get 7 free. This way we get to pre-announce Bryce 7 and make it so that anyone who purchases 6 in this time frame doesn't have to proactively ask for the return and then purchase 7. With this program, we just automatically put it in your account when 7 is release. There is no sinister motivation behind this program. In fact, it is the same thing exactly we offered with the new version of Carrara several months ago.
We cannot just give version 7 to anyone who has ever purchased a prior version of Bryce. This sounds good, but how would we recoup our development costs and stay in business. It is standard procedure for any software company to offer upgrade (discounted) pricing for people with prior versions, not to just give it away free. I'm curious to know of any software company that has the policy of buy it once and get every version after that free. If you know of one, let me know so I can study their business model and see how they make money. If it works for any company and they are still in business, that would be an intriguing business model to put in place.
We removed the upgrade from Bryce 5.5/5.0 to Bryce 6.3 because you can get 5.5 for free on download.com. It is not fair on many levels for people to download 5.5 for free and then purchase the upgrade product to Bryce 6.3. We should have done this long ago. That being said, there will be an upgrade option when Bryce 7 is released and that pricing will be better than the current option to buy Bryce 7 because we do want to give people who already own 6 (any version) an advantage.
When we say version 6 we specifically mean version 6.3. We don't even sell 6.0, 6.1, or 6.2 in the store. I'm not sure why we would say buy "6" and mean 6.0 when you can't even buy it. We mean the current, available version of Bryce. Hopefully, you don't think we would be playing games like that and then expect to retain any good will with our customers.
The introductory price for buying Bryce 7 outright when it is released will not be better than buying 6 now. It would be a bad thing for us to encourage customers to buy 6 now, give them 7 for free, and then offer a better deal to customers buying 7 when it is released. When we released the new version of Carrara several months ago, the new version was exactly the same price for the people who bought the prior version and got the current version free as for those who just bought the new version. Expect the same thing with Bryce.
We've not tried to be deceptive in any way and are following standard industry procedures with our pricing. Hopefully, this will clarify the concerns that customers are having in this thread. My apologies for not being more clear from the start.**

Bryster's right. I received the DAZ email stating that if you bought Bryce 6 you'd get Bryce 7 for free. Then they rubbed it in that there would be a "special" price if you already owned Bryce 6 and were a Platinum member.
So pay now, get something for free. Pay earlier as a loyal customer, we're going to charge you??? No wonder the US economy is in the dumps....

I understand Drew's comment, however, the method of advertising "Buy 6 get 7 free" just sounds deceptive. The argument that someone would buy 6 only to return it and buy 7 is a little out of whack.
For instance: knowing that B6 would become obsolete in two weeks when B7 is offered, who would buy it or have time to learn or use it? Those of us that have B6 would expect to pay a reduced price to upgrade - Drew is right about that. Why not just say, "B7 is here! If you have B6, this is your price. If you don't, you have X number of days to get it at the upgrade price, after that, it's full price."
This would stimulate current owners and intrigue future customers. Buy B6 and get B7 free is almost "bait and switch." The reality isn't any different, only the perception, and in marketing, perception is everything (why else would we buy bottled water at 3x the cost of gasoline?).

Yes - if you're talking about seperate PCs. It uses an add-on called Bryce Lightning which effectively creates a render-farm out of mutiple PCs.
If on the other hand you are talking about multiple processors in one pc, Bryce recognises them automaticaly and gives you multiple options on rendering priority.

it seems like daz usually offers its regular customers super reasonable deals and even freebies on its upgrades. then it puts a big price tag up there for the general public. daz realizes the importance of keeping its products popular and in use. they know renderosity users and people like most of us at this forum publish a lot and show off our stuff which is free adverts for daz. i'm still worried though because i haven't seen any breaks on the new carrara pro. j hate it when companies offer the standard and pro versions. even when the standard version is of a high standard, i still feel like i'm getting ripped and that i am a second class citizen.
