Does anyone know what the actual cost of this mag is to someone ordering it in the USA?
I can't seem to find it on their pages.

I order it from a book store.. it was $15.00 plus shipping.. they charged me $19.00 in all... supposed to get here today on Tuesday...

Is it an online bookstore or a local one? My small town doesn't have a bookstore.

OK, there's a little confusion here... The version of Carrara7 being currently offered in Digital Arts magazine is Carrara7 Standard. Perhaps a better deal would be to wait for issue #17 of 3D Artist which carries Carrara7 PRO.

In Canada we pay anywhere from $17 to $22 for U.K. Magazines.
I subscribe to Retro Gamer which saves me a few $$$ vs buying off the newsstand, its a magazine I read from front to back every issue, so I can justify the cost.

Only prob I can see in ordering it from the UK website,(besides the currency conversion) is the kind of shape your included disc might be in when it arrives. I don't mind buying the magazine from B&N, even at added cost because I can know that my CD/DVD will be intact. Newstand price in the US is around $16-17, at least on the west coast.

Sorry Annie, I haven't been able to find it on their website either. The only reason I know that they stock the mag is because I have physically visited several of their stores nearby. AFAIK the issue with C7Pro has not hit the stands here yet, but I will give out a shout as soon as I see it. I visit B&K a lot. If you don't live close to a city that has a B&K, or Borders, or other such large book store, I can see where that might be problematic.

BTW.. I received issue #16 from B&N. not # 17.. I even asked the guy and he said it was #17... I guess it will be here this coming month...

They go by month/year instead of issue number most times when ordering and forget about the lag time involved. The Euro newstands in the US should have #17 any day now.

I ordered it from the UK website and had it shipped to Virginia. Total cost was around $17. It arrived just fine, in a large bubble wrap lined shipping envelope.

It took a few days for them to process the order since I ordered late on a Friday. After it was processed on thefollowing Monday, I think it took a few days to arrive via e-mail. I t seems like it took maybe a week form the time I ordered to when it arrived.

Which website did you go to order the mag..? The main 3D Artist website is asking for British pounds not US dollars.. how do I buy from them... ? what did you do?

I used a currency converter on my Mac to get an idea of what the cost would be. When I ordered, I did the order in Pounds, and when I did the payment with PayPal, it converted it into US Dollars.

this is starting to look bad:
once somebody downloads and installs the pro version on the magazine disk, they can tell us more.
if the above are confirmed, the only reason to buy the mag is to read the mag and get the C7.2Pro
serial to use for an upgrade to C8Pro, assuming DAZ allows it, and C8Pro has been further tested by
the early adopters. there's some question whether the OS X version of C8Pro is bug-free yet.

I have installed and it is the full version of C7 Pro 7.2. There are no features missing or disabled and it runs perfectly fine on an iMac with OS X 10.6.4 (runs better than C8 ever will I believe). The disk only has the content installer for Windows though due to disk space issues, so that's a bummer. If you already own C7 Standard, you can use the content installer from that since they are the same. Even the content from C6 may work as I doubt that content has changed much since it was first made. Digital Arts magazine has C7 Standard included with the Mac content installer. You can register on there website, and go to the downloads section and get it from there as well. The serial can be used to upgrade to C8 and there is a coupon code to get 25% off C8 if ordered before September. Hope this helps.

o.k., thanks, kula - sounds like good news! the detail about having to edit the preferences.txt
file in snow leopard to include some font name may have been fixed in 7.2. even
without the content, £6 for the program is a bargain. I found I couldn't run the carrara pro 7.1.1.37
file (75.4 MB) that was on download.com and couldn't edit the incomplete pref file, nor could I run
c6Pro in snow leopard until I edited pref file to add font name. We'll keep hope alive that C8Pro
will be o.k. soon.

I also ordered it straight from the 3D Artist web site in the UK. The total cost was $17 and change. I live in Washington state and it showed up in about a week. As K mentioned before, it showed up in a bubble wrapped envelope and the CD was in fine shape.
When I ordered it from the web site, I was unable to get it to take a credit card as payment. I know others from the US had this same problem. I then tried paying through PayPal and it went through just fine.
The CD contains the full version of C7.2 Pro. I have been more than happy with the purchase.

Weird.
Carrara 7.2 Pro hates my Carrara 5.1 Pro files. My first CPro 7.2 crash just two minutes after installing the program. I have to import them instead of open them. It turns out the Assemble Room preferences used by 5.1 CAR files are not compatible with 7.2's Assemble Room.

I got my Carrara7Pro during the "Buy 7Pro now, and get 8Pro later" sale. Haven't installed 8Pro yet 'cause I've heard about a lot of bugs that may be show-stoppers for production flow, and I have a big project coming together now. Thought I'd wait for the bigger bugs to shake out, and I'm also putting together a new 64-bit system. 7.2Pro has run smoother, stabler, and faster than 6, so I'm in no hurry.

one other tip on the mac version on 3dartist CD (not a DVD): technically the carrara pro pkg
must contain much of the content, hence it's not gonna work right for newbies, like when they
click on a preset and carrara sez it's missing, even though it's in a separate content folder.
mac coding experts might be able to create new pkg that contains the necessary content,
but it might be easier just to wait for the 3dworld disk, which may be a DVD (not a CD).
3dartist disk also contains coupon for 25% off carrara 8 pro. not very good upgrade deal
IMVHO, but beggars can't be choosers :lol:

I just went back to the same Chapters/Indigo store and picked up 3D Artist Issue #17
3D world is still issue #131
They had 5 copies of 3D Artist and I wasnt happy with the disc quality, they all had a dirty/dusty spot about 10% of one edge, I guess where the cardboard is open. Lots of thin scratches. So I picked up one with the least amount of scratches.

It will still read. That's normal wear for that mag's CDs.
