In the past months I’ve been working on a new idea to extend the rendering capabilities of Daz Studio. The result is an upcoming plug-in that opens new possibilities not available before for the Studio artist.
The following scene was created in Daz Studio, rendered from Studio with this new plugin. The image has absolutely no postwork. This is a straight-from-the-renderer file.
The scene uses only one light, a physically-accurate sun light. No Image-Base Lighting was used.
The water is physically based with real-life absorption mapped.
Please note the back-side of the columns, it has a bit of reflected light. Please note the underwater caustics and the ambient light. All this is automatically generated by a single light.
This is only one of the many features that I will introduce in the next few weeks.
More in the coming days. I hope you enjoy it and that it can inspire on what is going to be possible in Daz Studio. Click on the image to see it at full size.

Thank you all for the interest. Please keep looking in this area as I will be posting news soon.
Just to repeat a couple of points that came out in the thread at Daz 3D.
a) This will work with both the free and Advanced version of Studio
b) This is a new rendering system, not based on 3Dlight.
c) It will be very easy on your pockets.
d) Compatibility with the Daz Studio shaders is built in.
Thank you for your interest.

WOW!!!!! Gorgeous!!!!! You've got me salivating on this plug in!
It looks like the type of realism available from a Bryce render.
Will it be available for both D|S 32bit & 64bit versions (I use 64bit)?
How easy is the render process on system resources (ram, etc)?
Pret-a-3D posted Tue, 06 July 2010 at 11:07 PM
Well, I think that I can say objectively that this will bring a level or realism way past what Bryce can do. Regarding your question, yes, I will release it on both 32 and 64 bits. The Mac OS version will be only 32 bit because Daz has not produced a 64 bit version of Studio yet. As I'm writing this I'm also compiling the Windows version. At first it will be 32 bit and then 64.
Every renderer benefits from more memory. Nothing huge for modern standards but the more the better. More cores are better. The renderer uses all cores available. You will have the option to use Network rendering as well.

What about rendering speed? How long did your demo render take?
Pret-a-3D posted Tue, 06 July 2010 at 11:23 PM
Regarding speed, I'll describe the process in detail probably next week. This is just a preview to let you know that there is a solution for creating realistic renders in Studio. The times of looking at high-end application as a mean to render gorgeous images is over. In a few weeks photographic quality renders will be easily available to Studio artists.

Pret-a-3D posted Wed, 07 July 2010 at 9:42 PM
Sorry LostinSpaceman, Poser doesn't have a plugin architecture that can support this kind of features. Given that Studio is free and kind use Poser content it's not a problem to migrate scene to that platform.

Tell me it's not Blender's renderer.
Pret-a-3D posted Mon, 12 July 2010 at 12:35 AM
@**ShawnDriscoll, not at all, that image is created from Daz Studio. I loaded the "Kingdom Of Marrakesh" model from Daz, added my Water Plane and launched Reality to start the render.
The rendering engine is not 3Dlight but all the modeling and setup is done in Daz Studio. You don't have to learn a different program, just how to run the plugin, which is rather simple.

ditto on the 32bit though mine is a quad core setup (grin!)
Pret-a-3D posted Thu, 15 July 2010 at 12:52 PM
Hyper-realism pushes your CPU more than standard renderers. Reality uses a separate technology, it doesn't use the built-in renderer of Studio. Reality is not a preset library or a series of clever shaders, it's a completely new, separate rendering solution for Studio. Materials and lights are calculated based on real-life physics. As such your CPU is pushed harder than before. Having said so, I am testing it, among other things, with an old laptop. If your hardware is older you have to settle for lower-resolution images or longer rendering times.

Thank you. We have also another discussion thread in the DAZ3d forum for Studio. It has passed 6000 views and there a few more details there too. In the last few days I've been hard at work to make Reality work on Windows, I write it on Mac OS, and I'm happy to say that we have a 32bit version tested on both XP and Windows 7. Now that the Windows version is well under way I have a bit more time to prepare some more promotional material that will showcase what Reality can do for you. I will be posting the promo soon.
