The stately old bird is molting now and Katie (one of the founders of the center) collected these feathers and made simple images. Katie sent these to me and said it was ok to post the images, simply to share the beauty of the feathers. TomDart

What is neat...these are not photographs in the usual meaning. A camera was not used. ; )

Here is link to the elegant old lady hawk who contributed the feathers:

There are other and perhaps better photos of her there.

Nice shot Tom good to see who is the feather belong to.
I am collecting feathers and I print out the identified bird and glue ( nicely) the matching feather next to the picture on a same page and frame the work. Great fun and looks good too on the wall...lol.

Very cool, but if a camera wasn't used, how were they taken?
You've piqued my curiosity with that statement!

A man once told me his best images of gemstone opals were made the same way, I will try some item with the technique and post if it works. Even if it does not, I will let the secret out...likely tomorrow.
She has done feathers in all sorts of ways and arrangements, some becoming a very nice art image while some were just feathers from a technical viewpoint for educational reasons.

I thought Miri was molting out of season. Feathers all over my living room. These are great and now I don't feel so bad about my living room.

Yvonne, here is one I did today using the same method. I tried a peacock feather but it was too dusty and worn. These are gelcaps.
**
The camera is Flatbed Scanner.** Different backgrounds can be used. The drawback is limited output size but depth of field is surprising. I did a refrigerator magnet which is about 1 inch deep and it was in focus.
I would love to do a dandelion fluff placed under a gray box or similar, just to see the results.
LovelyPoetess posted Sun, 15 August 2010 at 7:38 AM
Thanks Tom, I'll have to try that.
Although I'm sure one shot will be the underside of a cat. I know the moment I start playing with the scanner they'll be on it!

Ahhh... so true..ha ha..I have two of our cats who love to type for meeeeeeeeeeeeeee.................................or whatever or,yikes, delete things.
I would like to see a furry image..might be more difficult than thought once the kitty knows what you want!
