Not too sure if this question has been raised but when I launch Posr Pro 2010 (x86) (the more friendly version!!) I get the message (Transactions Pending :xxx, when xxx is a series of numbers counting downward)...
this typically takes about 2-3 mins before Poser starts functioning properly..... Any ideas what this is and how to get around it?
As usual, thank you all for your insights...
Cheers

Those are your runtime folders being pre-loaded.
Search the forum for "klingon toothpick". Many options exist for you to customize the library.
Find the option that controls reopening folders from your last session. Turn it off.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I am assuming you are referring to the Library interface. It would appear that the Library is installing and updating known runtime content. If it is taken several minutes to accomplish this, then there is, either, a single runtime that is very large or a significant number of runtimes available to the Library. Mine only takes several seconds.

Glad that is fixed. It's to be expected that I offer help on the library - I wrote it.

I am, at this very moment, working on the next one where the re-opening of old folders is done in the background, so you can work right away.

BB,
Do you see Poser Pro program running under 64 bit (in the near future) and not just the rendering engine?

It already runs in 64 bit mode. It may be that you selected installation option to add 32 bit version and you are running that one

I don't beleive the program is running under 64 bit..... since this would require a major overhaul to the program code..... As far as I know it is only the render engine that runs under 64 bit engine...
I could be wrong though....

You are definitely wrong. Your installation may not be running under 64 bit because you either chose wrong installation options or you are just running the 32 bit image instead of the right one.

The major overhaul to allow 64-bit came in doing the entire UI over again in Poser 8 - then was executed as 64-bit in Poser Pro 2010.

Thanks for the heads up..... This is interesting since when I run Poser Pro (x86) or Poser Pro, I don't see significant difference between the two (duirng say moving the camera angle)....
I am using Vista 64 bit, w/ 24 GB RAM + 1 GB Video card (ATI HD 4800).
Perhaps with the shear size of my poser files (avg. 450 -500 MB) this is to be expected?

If anything, 64-bit programs are slower, not faster. They have to move more data because all object pointers are 8 bytes instead of 4. But they can handle more then 4 GB of RAM - so the main advantage of the 64-bit version is that it can deal with larger scenes that the 32-bit version can't even load.

Actually, the 64-bit version should really run faster, since rendering is mainly a CPU-intensive application, and this usually outweighs the larger amount of data to be moved. I am not sure for Poser, since i only have the 32 bit version, but in my experience with povray on my computer the 64-Bit version renders about 15% faster than the 32-bit version, and i am guessing the poser renderer is doing more or less the same thing (essentially producing colored pixels from some geometry).
If you know of some speed comparisons 32 vs 64 bit i would like to know, since i am pondering about acquiring the 64-version myself.

millighost,
You know you're arguing with a guy who makes his living writing software, right?
When you begin a rebuttal with "actually", you have to use actual data, not speculation, to make your argument. Since you've never run the 64-bit Poser in a scenario with lots of geometry against the 32-bit Poser using the same geometry, I'd say "not actually" to your post.

The only ones I'm aware of were done with PP2010 first came out by me and a couple others. At that time, the 64-bit was slower than the 32-bit. I have not had time to test this since SR1.
Ponder this: If you have a 64-bit OS and are installing the 64-bit Poser, why would they bother to ask you if you want to install the 32-bit as well? What possible advantage could there be to having both? Might it be because the 32-bit version, despite being unable to use all your RAM, is faster for some scenes?

One of the reasons is that (according to the product info at CP) some of the Poser Fusion plugins are 32-bit only.
