You may need to consult with Obiwan (I think it was Obiwan who made that tree, right?) I haven't used it myself, and I don't know how it was built, but the effect you're getting may have some relation to how the item was made (perhaps more than one group for the trunk/branches?) -- my guess. Sorry it's not more helpful, but good luck! :) Varian

Did you change the tree bark only texture using the Material Browser? If I want to change one material in an object and leave the rest of the materials intact I always use the browser. The one thing you need to be careful of is this: When you select a material in the browser, it will select all the objects that use that particular material. What you need to do before changing it is de-select all the objects that you don't want to change that material and just leave the one that you do want to change. I've never encountered anything like this before so I'm thinking that you changed the material of the entire tree? Leaves and all? If you didn't then look in your material browser and select all your bark textures 1 by 1. Make a note if your large tree gets selected as you select the materials. Maybe the tree used more than 1 bark texture. Hope this helps Sacred! Laurie

Thanks for responding..... The tree itself is made up of the 4 main bark areas and then the walnut tree and the maple(?)...In this example I only changed the bark texture on the actual trunk. But as u can see the sections of the two other tree textures are intact. The section I need to change is the bark on the branches where the tree leaves are...and I don't know how to do that without corrupting the leaves. When I try and edit the walnut or the maple I get only the trunk showing...and a warning saying that it has mutiple texture..do I want to proceed.....but I can't seperate them...does this make any sense? I only want to change the bark on the branches...not the leaves themselves. the maple and the walnut are one object (each) how do I change just one component of these objects? ie...the bark only.

The tree itself is made up of the 4 main bark areas and then the walnut tree and the maple(?) -- Sounds interesting! A very odd configuration indeed! The advice you're getting is right; you need to use the Material Summary to edit the individual textures. There should be a leaves material for the walnut and one for the maple, but they may both be sharing the same material, in which case only one material will display for both of those. For the bark, there would be the 4 groups you already know about, plus one for the walnut and one for the maple. Again, the walnut and maple might be sharing the same material, in which case there'd be just one showing in the Summary. Doh...all this guessing. I'll download the tree and take a look at it. :)

I think I know what you mean now Sacred! You want to change the bark on the thin branches touching the leaves. Unfortunately the only way to do that is to change the leaf texture map itself. There is no procedural bark texture going that far up on the tree branch. It is part of the texture map that the leaf is on. You will need to open your leaf texture up in a paint program and paint on darker bark. That is the only way :(. Sorry :( Laurie
