I can tell you that progress on B7's bug list is proceeding apace according to my scources. There have been many fixes in recent weeks.

thebryster..why is it all beta's??
AnnieD posted Sun, 07 November 2010 at 10:09 AM
The first column says beta but the second on mine say "bryce 7 pro upgrade"
I think it says beta because they just haven't gotten finished yet with all the fixes and like AS told us..its still a work in progress.
I can tell you that the version I downloaded last night works like a charm...not a problem using it with the newest beta of Daz...or by itself not using the bridge.

Just saw this thread.... I'm on my way to download it... It is still in the works that's why they are keeping it under BETA...

This release IS a beta. They're releasing it to get feedback before releasing the final B7.1 upgrade.

Yup. There are some scene files from David Brinnen and Horo, which have examples of the new anisotropic material settings (among other things). Very nice! Look into the DAZ Bryce gallery for images of them.. satiny Christmas ornaments, bright copper kettles, CD discs, other metal meterials. But a lot is still old content, so it's up to you whether or not it's worth the download times just to get the newest stuff.

Does anyone know if I can install this new one on top of the existing one...?
or shall I remove it first... I'm almost done with the download...

When I installed mine it asked to uninstall the old one and I let it do the uninstall.

Making a new folder and saving all precious Beta incarnations, as is suggested in the Daz forum, is a bit extravagant and hard drive space consuming..
I do have the hard drive ... but why eat up my space.. Maybe I'll just save the Beta exe files onto disks instead...
Any opinions..?

That's what I've been doing.. but in the Daz forum.. they advice to keep the previous Betas.. I'm a bit confused.. why not keep the exe files...instead...?!

Thats what I do...I don't have the extra hard drive space to keep them all installed...and I don't have and haven't had, any problems.

I burn my installers onto disc/DVD.
erosiaart posted Sun, 07 November 2010 at 8:17 PM
i rememebr asking that in a thread a few weeks back..maybe two or three..was adviced..and i religiously took that advice.. to keep the last previous exe file.. as well as the original. just in case.
so..right now..i'll burn onto a rewriteable dvd.. the original bryce pro..the one i bought, the last update before this one, and then this one. same goes for the content. since it's re-writeable, i'll delete any other versions that exist.
as for the installing..uninstalling bit.. when you install this version..and it asks for whether it should uninstall the previous version..let it do it. you'll have a clean bryce without doubles of anything. As long as you do the above stuff first. So incase anything goes wrong.. you at least have the previous version to fall back on.
the only hitch i keep getting? you know when you add things to the content library? obps, mats, sky lab etc? how do i deal with that not getting completely erased when i install the content bit?
AnnieD posted Mon, 08 November 2010 at 12:08 AM
rosie, when i installed the content all it took away was the previous content that the installer put on. it left all of the stuff i put on and just replaced the "content" that goes with the install.
did that make sense? lol

ah..ok..makes sense.
btw..why does it instlal it into my documents folder instead of the programs--daz.. folder?
AnnieD posted Mon, 08 November 2010 at 12:34 AM
I don't know that one...Daz just started this thing about installing it in a different place. I just let it go there.

lol.. not when you an organized person and you thinking..DAMN!! It ought to be in the Daz folder!! Neat..and put where it ought to be!
Not that we can ever change it..
Skiwillgee gave me this link.. http://daz.tall-tales-racing.com/CM/index.htm which I need to read thru .. Sigh.. i thought you'd give me a different answer and say.. "..just a bug..drop it into the daz folder.." so i wouldn't have to studiously read... (Coz I'm hooked to Ken Follet's Fall of Giants.. fictional History)
..ok..I go read...
erosiaart posted Mon, 08 November 2010 at 5:11 AM
hey!!! thanks to my slow speed..I just managed to download the bryce pro beta version. the content file..i tried downloading that last nite..but it got stuck somewhere and it didn't download.
Now.. i CANT find the content bits in the available download list. I checked the itemized section..zilch, nada,,nothing. I've refreshed the page, logged out, logged back in etc..
it's disappeared..ran away..not there..spirited away...
huh??
AnnieD posted Mon, 08 November 2010 at 9:37 AM
Did you try to go into your download history and reset the bryce program?
It should put it all back into your downloads again...then just get the part you missed.
edit to add:
it probably won't say the same thing in the download history...just "bryce" and whatever version maybe?

@Rosie.. that link is a tut for DazStudio content manager and not Bryce.
Is there a way to dl only the new content or does one have to dl the complete content and sort through it before installing.
AnnieD posted Mon, 08 November 2010 at 6:08 PM
I had to dl all of it.

The most frustrating thing about Bryce 7 Pro is its inability to save large files over 500 Megs. I am just saving the model that I created and it crashes every time. It should not be so memory intensive as to require more then 3 Gigs of Ram to save a 482 Meg file should it? I am a die hard fan of Bryce but this is just unacceptable, any suggestions?
Thanking you in advance for any input...............
