If you use windows 7 there is a function called "readyboost". If you plug in a flash drive and right click on it, you can select readyboost. It turns the flash drive into a high speed cache, very quick for read-write activity.

Hi Eliane,  Given that the system requires some memory to work, 2GB is really prety low these days.  I'd consider adding some more RAM if you can. Depending on your computer this can often be done quite cheaply and you will notice the difference!

Heck, even when I upgraded after my last motherboard died - even I got 4GB. Might have went for more, but I decided to stick with my OS disk that I paid for already.

If you're sticking with 32-bit XP, 4GB is about all you need (or can) to push it to. But if upgraded to a 64-bit OS, you can go crazy with it (at least what's reasonable within your budget.)

More memory is always good. It lets you do nifty things like screen-capture video recording without too much lag.

The readyboost is an interesting Idea I never thought about trying to use it.

I agree with everyone else here.  2GB is the Minimum for Windows 7.

4GB would be a good start.
