Subject: Request a Parent in mass script

I searched this forum using the words parent and parenting and could not find what I was looking for, hence this request...(now if something already exists, please point me to where I can find it and sorry for the waste of pixels)

I spend a lot of time managing my scenes in the Hierarchy editor. When a scene starts to get to complex, I load a null figure and parent various figures and or actors that are set in the scene, so I can close the side arrow and collapse-shorten up the Hierarchy display. Which makes finding what I am working on currently a ton easier.

This is request is way way way beyond my scripting capabilities. Wonder if somebody could make a script that allows you to parent a group of figures or actors under a pre-selected null or any selected item. With an interface sort of like Semideu's Delete Multi script

First window you would select the parent to with check boxes like his Delete Multi. Second window you would select check boxes of the items you want to parent to the first selection.

If you try (smirk) to do complex scenes being able to 1 colaspse the hierarchy display down to the things you are currently working on or 2, being able to grab one item in the scene and move it and have everything parented to it follow along is a huge time saver.

I think the script would be complex enough, that it could become a sellable product.

TIA

Gary

Which version of Poser are you using?

And did you realize that you can drag/drop props/figures in the hierarchy window to define parents?

i.e searching for an item in a Python multi line list box is going to be much the same work as doing the same in the hierarchy window.

Now at work and PoserPro2010 is across town. When you say drag and drop in the hierarchy window. I assume you mean in; not into. I drag and drop stuff all the time. But if you want to move 10-20 items and the list is long (from bottom to top)...on a Mac the window is very slow to scroll when dragging.

My XO object manager can do this. It has a tree hierarchy similar to the hierarchy editor. It has a "parent" feature that parents all objects that are selected in the tree to the actor that is selected in the scene.

Have to go back and explore that feature. Thanks for the reply
