I'm in the same boat as you. I use Poser 7, but want to upgrade to PP2010. I too am curious as to how the Library looks. I've seen people say they don't like it, I wanna see for myself to make my own opinion :o)

I upgraded from P6 and found switching between runtimes a lot quicker, though you do get a slow period at the start- I've got about 1100 folders and it seems to read them at 2 or 3 per second.

I was wondering do you have to double click the mouse to see whats in the folders, I was also hoping that the folders would have a picture so you did not have to open it to see whats in it. A bit like using explorers view
Any other pics I use two monitors and would have one showing the contents of my runtime so I don't have to troll through them. I use multiple runtimes not the main poser runtime as I have too much stuff.

You don't have to double click the mouse to see what is in the folders. They expand on one click. Double click installs into the scene.

Quote - A screenshot of library as requested. I keep mine tucked in the corner even smaller than the screenshot. You can float it any size/position you want. All the different 'rooms' can be laid out independantly. Fairly sure it can be set similar to Poser Pro 2010

I get the same results. I don't have nearly as much as you do, but they read about 4 per second when loading.

My Question is this please, can you tell me if the folder within a folder is viewed as a folder or can it have a picture of its contents on it. like the windows folders have in explorer?
or do you have to click on the folder to see its contents? even folders within folders?

AFAIK the folders only show as folder icons and don't preview the content. It has been a few months since I last investigated all the options. Service Pack 4 is in production and is rumoured to have a few library tweaks. BagginsBill is on the Poser Development team and is the best source of info about the UI.
One trick P8 can do is have a mix of files in one folder (eg character, hair and props) instead of split across libraries.
Have you looked at P3DO Explorer?

Hi all
Thanks for the help, I don't think the library view is what I would expect as I think its reasonable to have a folder be able to displace a picture of its contents, just like the P3DO explorer can.
I don't use P3DO because it works from one runtime only and dose not cope with multiple runtimes with respect to loading into poser.
thanks all I will await the next poser version when it perhaps is improved to give a visual of the library. I really like poser for what it dose.
Thanks Rowlando

I don't use P3DO because it works from one runtime only and dose > not cope with multiple runtimes with respect to loading into Of course it does. P3dO works and cope with multiple Runtimes. It was even the first to do so. You have to run the Poser Folders Wizard (Assistant menu) and P3dO will automatically detect other Poser Runtimes. Yarp www.senosoft.com

Hi Yarp
Will the free version allow me to use multiple runtimes or is it just the Pro?

Hi Yarp & All
well just been trying out the P3DO pro demo version and works really great, you can't see all thumbnails of folders in a folder, I can't yet but still learning.
However its the best I have found and I am very pleased so far. I find when deleting a sceen I have to reset the prpc script but thats small.
Loading in is great but seems to have a long pause for me, but not as long as waiting for poser to open my runtimes which are large.
This is a really good product and I strongly recommend it.
Thanks Yarp for telling me I will be purchasing the pro version over the next few weeks when I am fully versed with it.

I have Poser Pro 2010 running on Win 7 64. I love Pro and the new library but it does have issues. The libraries window can't be docked so you need to constantly swap between windows, and (a big issue for me) when you add to the library while Poser is open, the new additions don't appear in the library. You need to close and re-open Poser to have the new items appear. Even changing runtimes doesn't help. A refresh button would be nice.

Didn't knew that, thanks for the tip. Rowlando, sorry if I didn't reply I was offline. Seems like you answered most of the questions anyway. > you can't see all thumbnails of folders in a folder See in Options, General and check "Show folders in File view". This will permanently show directorites. Or in View menu set "Show Folders". This will enable this too but just for current session (i.e. Next time you will run P3dO folders will not show).
