Subject: Is Realistic gold possible in Poser?

Getting gold to look half way decent in Poser has eluded me.  The gold material in Poser is pitiful and tweaks I have tried failed miserably.

I  would like to be able to make realistic looking gold on some of my products and would appreciate any advice on "How To" or merchant resources available.

Thanks,

Pappy

Try freestuff at runtimedna. There were some metals there that I thought looked good.

yeah, gold is tricky in most 3D programs, but I am sure it can be done.  I would definately add a reflection to the material, and set the value to maybe between 0.7 and 0.9 (when polished it's pretty reflective).  Set the base clor to an almost Mustard yellow. Set one of the colors in the reflections to an orangish brown. Give it a high specularity as well.  You may need to play around with adding some other nodes to a few channels (edge blends and color ramps for example).  I been planning to sit down and create some good, photo-realistic metals for Poser, just been too busy with other things (I had a whole bunch of surfaces from metals through rocks and plastics for Lightwave - just need to figure out the way the different attributes line up in Poser).  I would also say you could probably apply a cloud map with the sky color closely matching the base color of the material and either a lighter or darker cloud color to create some surface impurities if you wanted.
