Here's the deal. My seven year old Toshiba laptop's monitor is dying. I have ordered a refurbished machine that is currently being shipped to me. May arrive on Monday. It is a faster machine with more ram, however it has Windows 7 on it and I have been on Windows XP for years. I did not realize until last night how much of my life is tied up with my Firefox browser, not just for my use of Poser, but also personal business. I need to know if I can run my Firefox browser as it exists now from my external drive? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Sure you can. I loaded Firefoxx on Vista with no problems. You may need to save your bookmarks and stuff to restore on the new machine.

first go get the following Firefox addons
Lastpass - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lastpass-password-manager/ this will hold all your passwords securely online
Xmarks - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/ this will hold all your bookmarks securely online
FirefoX Sync https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firefox-sync/?src=api
between those 3, you can have your Firefox anywhere you install it or any machine you use. there's also http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable a portable Firefox you can run off a Flashdrive.
Airport security is a burden we must all shoulder. Do your part, and please grope yourself in advance.

I downloaded the Mozbackup program. I saved last night to my external drive my Programs Folder on my Laptop and just wondered if I could create a shortcut on the new Win7 machine to my Firefox.exe in the external and if it would run fine. I had some time ago moved my Poser 7 into my external drive and made a desktop short cut to it and I can run Poser 7 just fine from the external. Wondered if I could do the same sort of thing on the new Win7 machine (due to arrive on Monday). I will run Mozbackup also just in case.
To onnetz: Yeah people have said that I will like Win7 better than XP. Who knows, maybe I will, I don't know yet. But you are talking to someone here who sometimes really misses their Atari ST1040 machine. :)

I was hesitant at first as well but made the plunge back when the 64 bit beta was first available. Well, wasnt really a plunge considereing I had the trusty xp as a dual boot system. After installing win 7 I hardly ever touched xp again. There are just quite a few things about it that make certain tasks effortless. Somthing as simple as playing a dvd. On xp you had to purchase or have the codecs preinstalled. win 7 does it right out of the box. Anyway I'm sure you'll be just fine making the switch.
