Hi all,

I have vue 9 which i'm using in Maya 2011.

I want to create a simple shadow cast on the ground (Not Vue ground)

Basically the workflow would be in maya,....Create a plane/assign User Background Shader/ add a photo to your camera image plane, and violia! a shadow on the ground.

But with vue plants, I can't get a plant's shadow to show up on my image.

  Does anyone know?

Thank you,

lou

In maya, using regular polygons the way to make shadows with imply 2 things. First you'd need to create any sort of light and go to its atributes (right click on it and the first option, or the third button on the top right of the screen, there you scroll down to the shadows, and choose whether you want the depth map shadows or the raytrace shadows. Then you'd need to go to your render options, and activate the raytrace option, so that the shadow actually appears on screen.

Maybe that you can achieve a shadow from your plant? Lighting it the right way?

Hope it helps!

Hi again,

Ok, I think I explained it wrong.

I can get shadows to show up in maya but I can't get then to cast onto an Image via camera/image plane/ use background shader.

For some reason the "maya plane, used background shader" show up as "solid" not transparent when rendered, so that only the shadows cast onto the image.

Basically, I need to render a plant with shadows which will be composited in after effects onto another scene.

I know I could simple do it in VUE stand alone, but i have a very complex model in maya and don't want to be working in VUE. (hate their navigation tools)

  Thanks again,

Lou
