As the winner of the last Bryce Challenge, Grafikeer has thrown down the gauntlet.
ALIEN WORLDS
"Use any version of Bryce to create your vision of an alien landscape, be it a hostile desert planet with swirling dust storms, a frozen world orbiting a giant planet, an alien jungle full of bizarre plants and humid mists, a mechanized tech planet...you get the picture!
Imports are allowed, but try to use Bryce for most of your needs. Minimal postwork would also be acceptable.
As a side challenge, explore the many areas within Bryce and add an element that you have customized to the scene...for example, changing the colours of a preset terrain material, combining a trunk of one plant with the leaves of another, creating your own custom sky, etc. Add this element that you've tweaked into your description to accompany the image."
As Grafikeer mentions, there is the opportunity to take part in a side challenge. If you have customized an element, you may use the file upload option, but please let us know what you've done.
The Challenge is now running and the deadline for entries will be the 12 noon UK time, 31st March. I'm giving you guys the extra time as we're already well into February.
I'd like to offer a huge thankyou to RodsArt for all his help over the last 3 months since I was taken ill. You do great work, my friend! Thank you!
Oh! And don't forget, we still need entries for the new Challenge Banner Graphics!
Have fun out there!

Greets
yesterday I wanted to upload my contest entry... I am confused about the Bryce "file" that is required for uploading entries with a size limit of 10MB... The Bryce file for my entry is 15+MB... I tried compressing it with WinZip and reduced it in size only by 2%.. still over the 10MB limit.... How does one take care of this?

I think that's more if you want to share mats you used. I just uploaded the JPG into both the file and image box. It was accepted.

Must have done something wrong in submitting the entry.
This is the message I got :
he thumbnail you uploaded was not a valid file type or exceeded the size limits. Your entry was saved without the file(s), and will be reviewed shortly.
This is the thumbnail.
RodsArt posted Wed, 02 March 2011 at 4:01 AM
adbc:
Your thumbnail is in place of the Image, although the File upload has your full scaled image.
TheBryster has this months challenge, If he can't get to it today, I'll switch them and approve it for you. (the file specs are fine)

I also had a problem uploading the file which was less than 10 megs with a .br7 extension. Can retry on the form, send independently, or attach to a message here on the forum.
Thanks

Bryster: Can't upload due to the fact that there are no form to upload it ... My file is only 205 kb and 1025 x 690... Don't know why it won't accept it. My tbn is 100 x100 and only 2.25kb. Something has changed. I have only uploaded the tbn into the first where it said file and the image into the image section of the form. Do I really need to upload the br file?

I'm sitting on tenterhooks here waiting for the last render to finish antialiasing.
Now I'm not certain what we do about the customised Bryce elements, like a spaceship model, a city/building model, procedural texture for a sun/atmosphere etc etc.
I hope we don't have to upload the entire Bryce scene file? mine's massive! (224MB)
Could upload .obp files and .mat files, is that okay? There'd be at least 4, and that's just off the top of my head - there could be more.

Yeah, I got that, can certainly upload the image - no probs.
Just seems a bit odd to upload it twice.
So what happened to this part of the challenge then:
"As Grafikeer mentions, there is the opportunity to take part in a side challenge. If you have customized an element, you may use the file upload option, but please let us know what you've done."
It sounds like the opportunity to share the optimised element with people - is that not right?
Or is that a separate thing?

Okay, I'm hoping it goes in the "File" slot.
I can't upload the object file unfortunately cos it's way too big at 65.9MB.
I just hope this is right.....
Entry failed as file not right type or something, so that wasn't right after all - how on earth am I supposed to upload it then?

Phew! Thanks Chris.
That's the important part.
But what happens about the customised parts that we were going to share round - that side part?
I know I was stressed, that's because it was late last night when it went wrong, and no one was about, and then this morning I made a special effort to drag myself out of bed before the deadline, and .....
no one was about again,
so I panicked.
Well you would do, wouldn't you? Lol!
I do that with looming deadlines.
If there's no other way, what about we upload the customised things to FreeStuff - after the voting? I'll do that with mine if no other way appears.
