I'm meh on the outfit as a whole. It's well done as always, but not particularly to my tastes. Still, I'm glad that they keep making things as they probably are the best in terms of abilities; As Shenam or whichever one does the textures is great.

Have to agree... while I've always supported them in the past this last spate of disappearing with hints, teases and lack of information (they clearly stated on their forum that they would notify customers and give plenty of warning if they decided to pull their V4 products) has been fairly annoying and seems very unprofessional. I can see now why people had been getting irritated with Aery Soul's strange sales decisions in the past.
I'm not crazy about the new outfit, although I'm sure it's well made and everything. The last few of their sets for V4 seemed to often be reworking of ideas already done for their V3 sets and never really anything new and different.
Btw - isn't the hair in that promo Golden Drops that used to be on sale here?

Yawn. Never really been interested in their clothing, though I have most of their
hair models, as well as Alice 4. I really don't understand the disappearing and coming
back with a different name, which they've done several times over the years. They have
pretty much alienated their regular customers, but the fanclub will always buy, so I

The problem is, these days, unless your reaction is fawning adoration, it's hate.
This is merely people who have been in 3d a loooong time, and have seen AS do
this, what, four times so far, that I know of. It gets rather tiring, and has actually
reached the level of boring. I have Scorpio Rising, the only outfit of theirs that I
actually liked, as well as their hair models and Alice. Everything is high quality.
But I yawned when I saw they were back. They certainly weren't gone for long,
yet some act like they've been gone for years. They're good, but not THAT good.

The difference between boring and hate is boring goes by without the snarky remarks. Is it a big hate? No, but the snark is totally unneccesary, no matter how long we've been around. That's all. As I've so often been told in these forums by the staff, if you don't like something you really don't have to comment on it.

there are plenty of other threads and you are free to make your own, but we can have 1 thread where we are free to voice our dislikes or apathy, like it or not.

You don't want me to use the word hate for your behaviour and yet you have no problem telling me how I should behave. Yeah - I like the Alice body too. For V4 characters I always use Alice body and V4 head. One thing I really don't like is the Alice fairy texture though... looks like she has a bad case of the sniffles!
Yaara was always my fave AS character.
Cariad posted Mon, 21 March 2011 at 9:42 PM
Not keen on the body shapes for Alice any more than I was with her head. The bug-eyed thing, the fact to me she looked like an anorexic teenager. I prefer realistic curves and realistic musculature especially for female characters. Neither of which Alice has even the 'curvy' version isn't really curvy. It is just less underfed looking than the others.
As to the new set, it just seems to be a grab at mass marketable content. Another scatily clad fairy outfit. The wings I will say look nice, but the body suit is rather bland and the booties remind me strongly of the ones from White Rose honestly.
Now if they would start doing some more cyberpunk influenced stuff like they had for V3, then I could probably work up some enthusiasm. That and morphs in the clothing that allow me to fit it to figures that don't have bodies like 12 year old boys.

But it depends on what you're used to and what you see as normal. To me Alice's body shape isn't weird because where I'm from and the people I know tend to be thinner and more angular than people in other places often are.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but You Can and You Do. Websites do it all the time when they have forums. The TOS is all about "Telling people how to relay their opinions". Moderators have been very vocal here at times telling people how to express themselves.

That's of course true. Maybe someone decides to change the name because the old one does not longer fit into the product line (or as he became hectic when he first logged into a store as a lurking beginner and was asked "Your userame?" and typed "John12345").
Changing the name is not a problem, deciding to move to another store is not a problem, that's only a vendor using his freedom to sell what and where and as whomever he likes. As long as support is still given to the products now pulled I do not understand the disapointment. No vendor can guarantee that his products will be available forever, seeing a complete product line being pulled is something that many people know who saved money for a specific product and when they finally saved enough the desired product is replaced by a different model. Bad luck!
As said: If a vendor has to close the doors of his shop out of whatever reasons this is often sad as the 3d-scene looses some ideas and inspiration - and customers may loose support for what they've purchased. If the vendor re-appears under his old or a new name with new products the least thing I would expect is that a customer gets support again for what he has purchased - as long as we talk about bugfixes and likewise things - I would never expect that a vendor offers me a kind of lifetime-support for questions like "How can I achieve an effect like shown in the promo?"

And in fact I don't care for skinny or full figure when it comes to 3d as in the end it's all polygons and fantasy and should not be taken too serious but as what it is: Art and fun (or as a former german king said - poor translation by me: Each should be able to get happy in his own style).

Curves! Hallelujah! Someone fed the poor waif!
The hip/thigh position is a bit past realism, but trust me, there are people who can torque their joints nearly that far however, so if the lady happens to be hyperflexible it isn't that far out of the possiblities of reality. Actually, if the knee were brought forward a bit and the calf/foot adjusted to compensate it is entirely possible. Bending the straight leg a touch at the knee would help too.
The leg pose is very reminiscent of some is Indian and south east asian forms of dance.

Hmmmm... not sure if the pose is sooo impossible. I agree about the right leg, it's a bit hard to balance this way (as more as she stands on her toe) - but what people often forget is that you can see poses as well as a snapshot of a person in movement. Nothing really tells us that she stands this way for hours, minutes or even seconds. If you see it as part of a movement it is pretty realistic. I've just tried this pose out and beside the fact that lifting myself tohe toes was uncomfortable I was able to achieve a likewise pose (but with a broomstick instead). Far more uncomfotable as the leg's postition was the back-bending of arms and shoulders. And yes, I have the problem of hypermobilty.

The thigh should be a bit more upright, yes, but lets face it, it is still V4 and her joints we are talking about here. I still dream of forearms and elbows that don't look just wrong when bent. Her thighs are always an issue when you bend the legs, as are the knees. Those foibles only become more pronounced with morphs that add any bulk to her. I think that is part of why we see so many scarecrow Vickies.

The little glitch on the hip can easily be fixed by some postwork. At least it's not a soft woman but a heap of polygons and the more artificial flesh you add to the body the better visible the creases will be. In fact you can even use the little crack to create a believable crease in your paint program...
By the way: Bending a leg the wrong way may end up in breaking your kneecap!

I was brought up in Germany, and can vouch for the fact that Jethro Tull were BIG in the early 70's...I can remember them being played at discos, along with Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Magnus hit the nail right on the head; the leg pose is strikingly similar to the one struck by their frontman Ian Anderson whilst playing his flute! "Bouree" was a minor insrumental hit of theirs here in the UK in about, ooh...1970 or thereabouts, just before "Aqualung". They helped to invent heavy metal and folk-rock simultaneously.

Did they really play Jethro Tull in discotheques? I only remember the "ootz-ootz-ootz", perhaps that's why I don't like disco's.
best regards,
Bopper.
By the way, the glitch on the hip can also be removed with dimension3D morphing tool and a 3D-program like hexagon or Zbrush.

And yes, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath were played. Along with a lot of others. Though I don't think in Discotheques (at least not in the 80's). We had proper rock clubs for that. :P

Well - I think "ootz-ootz-ootz" is late ninties, before we had the "boofda-boofda" area. And yes, discotheques played Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, lots of "One of these days" by Pink Floyd (still works fine for me when I want to dance alone), the early Alan Pason as well, Rory Gallagher, J.J. Cale and such - and of course the Stones, I still can not imagine a good party without the Stones. Well - and then there came Abba (yep, they where indeed great), the Sweet, Slade, T-Rex, the whole glittery scene and everything changed. From now on we had two kind of discos: Colorful ones with these mirror balls and those painted in black that where great at night and awful in the early morning. We used to start our evenings in the colorful ones and end up in the black ones - the funny thing is: The second kind still exists with the same names in the same locations while the colorful ones became outlet stores, arcades with slot machines or, when we where lucky, with pool-tables...
Oh my, now I really feel OLD!! I begin to talk about the good old days

Joke aside, with bent knees I'm quite flexible. Make them straight and I can't even sit properly xD
My point is... V4 is a 3d model. Meaning she can be anything an artist wants, be that a dancer, a contortionist, a fantasy creature, an alien, list goes on~~ my guess is, if SOMEONE in the world can do it, 3d model is allowed to. It all depends on a person's view of "realism": does it mean it could be real or you think realism means easy to happen with anyone?
As for me, I'm with my boyfriend as far as digital art goes: it I want something exactly like real-life, no nice brush strokes in paintings, no fantasy-like features in 3d... I'd just shoot a photo. Heh.

There is a "Thigh Helper" and a "Buttock" adjustment morph included with Alice, sometime the pose will require a bit of help to bring back some of the bulge and or smoothness to the area.

I've never cared for Alice and if I saw someone like that in real life I'd be scared. The clothes I don't care for either, it's the hairs that they've sold which I love. I think the ones I have are L.A., Fable, and Golden Drops hair. Each one is amazing and I really hope they release that straight hair that was in one of the Alice promos months ago.

While I am not the big Alice fan as well I like to combine the morphs with others. What I highly doubt is that Alice is meant to look as any person from real life. I think she is pretty much like most clothes of the same brand: A creation for fantasy renders - or meant to be combined with realistic morphs/clothes to add this special extra.
I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!
And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

Alice looks like a dancer - except her thighs are way heavy. I know a lot of dancers of a similar shape - without the weird thighs! Some of us in Northern Europe don't carry a lot of extra weight y'know ;)
Was it this thread that someone asked about Golden Drops hair? It's now at RuntimeDNA under a different name. Fantasy Drops or something.

Thanks all- I had some great laughs from reading this thread! I thought Aery Soul had some interesting products. I was going to add my own fake snarky comments-but have no real feelings about the here today-gone tomorrow aspects.
Great Renders Paul Francis! I am in the minority- as I think the first one looks best (not real-human looking-but as a fantasy image)
Alice looks fine as a fantasy creature- an almost-human, Elf maybe?
Afrodite! Great pose- you look great as is- no Donuts needed! :-)

I like Alice sometimes. But not as a human figure. She has no hips. To me, she looks kinda like a very successful sex re-assignment patient in that respect. Very nice, but not quite right. Sorta transsexual.
The less emaciated Alice (I would never call that "big" -- but maybe it's only in poserdom that we think normal looking females are huge) looks much better and more human.
Afrodite knows her own body. If she wants donuts, she should have them. Belly dancing is calorie intense. Can't dance for long on a diet of celery sticks.
Alfaseed, Aery Soul, Awful Soul... well, whatever. The muse is apparently fickle.

Uhm. Thank you! :D
Bellydancing is great, it gives me a lot of flexibility and femininity (is that a word in english? eh, dunno). Yes it burns a lot of calories... No, that's not the reason why I'm thin, I'm just the daughter of my (skinny) father LOL
I think Alice is beautiful, but she's obviously not quite human. I don't think she was made to be. She's supposed to look like fantasy, not to be realistic. I think there's a point in that: if I wanted a render that looks exactly like a photo, I would go and take a photo. I like realistic renders because of the technique, and I like realism in renders in general, but for that case I like to inject at least a bit of fantasy (usually a lot).
As for them changing names, I thought it odd first, then I learned it's not the first time they do it, and I can't help but wonder why. As a graduated graphic designer, I have learned the importance of the strength of a brand, I can't even begin to understand why they would want to reset it when they're so famous and supposedly start anew. Plus I feel a bit bad that, when they left this time, they made a huge suspense in their forums and left us users worrying that they might be quitting poser because of problems or such. Oh well, if it works for them, then good for them, I guess.

maybe they are like a lot of us. They change their minds, leave, come back, try something like reborn or born again under different name. A fresh start or something.
Maybe thye intende to leave but just love doing the Poser stuff that they come back. Maybe they are just weird...whatever.

Maybe they just wanted to stir up the next big debate on Renderosity.
