I'm not sure if any of you are following the Smith Micro blog, but they've released some shocking news...... the development of Poser 9 has been cancelled.
They do give a number of reasons, you can read all of it on their blog, but let me give you to highlites..... The main reason they mention are the disappointing sales figures for Poser 8, Pro 2010 and now Debut. Debut was released as the ultimate endeavour to force some breakthroughs, but has been a huge let down for Smith Micro. Second reason, amongst others, are problems with some of the external parties Poser depends upon. There are a number of technical, but also personal issue, resulting in some of the external parties withdrawing their support.
Anyway, read the full story at their blog.

Ok what have you all been doing to lovely Smith Micro!
I suppose Poser will become a White Elephant sitting in the proverbial room of my charity money expenses.
Should have gone for another programme (my tech friends said so)!
Investment is the only way forward.
Apart from Daz what should I go for now? the idea is to make educational animation movies.
Any ideas?

I am working on getting Blender to do what I want it to. I am still using Poser 8 and still learning it. I guess there is just so much to the program that I haven't even touched yet, that I won't be upgrading even if I could...

I believed it too.
And my fallback plan is also Blender.
Poser 11 Pro, Windows 10
Auxiliary Apps: Blender 2.79, Vue Complete 2016, Genetica 4 Pro, Gliftex 11 Pro, CorelDraw Suite X6, Comic Life 2, Project Dogwaffle Howler 8, Stitch Witch

Even if it isn't true, I'm a bit over the Poser thing... I'm sort of going the route of using Poser as a pose tool only, and doing everything else everywhere else. Poser 9 is going to have to be pretty crash-hot to entice me.
Thank goodness for Pose2Lux for giving me that push.

do they have an official survey asking for opinions on what we would like to see for future Poser?

Haven't seen the survey yet, but usually they do have one. If I recall somewhere in the summer.

The post at SM is gone-must have caused too much angst.
I almost bought this Linux announcement...
"We are pleased to announce the birth of the Canterbury distribution. Canterbury is a merge of the efforts of the community distributions formerly known as Debian, Gentoo, Grml, openSUSE and Arch Linux.
The target is to produce a really unified effort and be able to stand up in a combined effort against proprietary operating systems, to show off that the Free Software community is actually able to work together for a common goal instead of creating more diversity."

Ha! Good one Benjamin! We (Smith Micro and CP) didn't post anything today, and if development has been canceled, someone should probably tell those engineers I saw with their heads down as I was leaving the building yesterday. ;-) The web team did talk a lot about what kind of light hearted joke we could play, but I don't think we'd ever be brave enough to do something that would stir the pot THAT much. hehe! No joke from us this year, but we're enjoying all the other clever ideas around the web!
grichter posted Fri, 01 April 2011 at 12:18 PM
So is Poser 9 going to include Google Motion
http://mail.google.com/mail/help/motion.html
This is major cool. Only request I have is that when I give my monitor the finger after I get frustratated with my lights, material nodes and shadows that the Make Art function is envoked.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking. He apologizes for this. He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.
Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below. His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

Yep it's April 1..... normally I'm the one falling for all the jokes, but this time I was quick enough to make one myself. It's kind of fun for once not being fooled, but to fool others.....
My kids got to me this mourning though.... they got 2 fake spiders, that looked way to real and did hang them outside my bedroom door. I hate spiders, you can imagine how shocked I was running into them when opening the door..... yuk.
