The attached image is a render with M4 and a cloth plane behind him. The cloth plane has an image map node attached to it in the Materials room.
The image on the image map node does not have the diagonal streaks that you can see in the image. The render produces these.
Could someone please suggest what might be causing this problem ?
thanks,
Andrew

The shadow ray bias on the light probably needs adjusting, to a higher value.
Render with shadows off. If the streaks go away then it confirms (almost) that it's a shadow artifact.
Another theory - you said the cloth plane? Don't use that it's bad. Use the one-sided square.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Also, check to make sure that each light in your Scene is set to Raytrace.

Thanks guys.
I replaced the cloth plane with the one-sided square. The difference was marginal (in that it changed the "texture" of the artefact).
The most telling change came when I removed all but one light, and then changed the existing light to ray-tracing.

Andrew

I had a similar problem and turning off the shadows box in the item's properties cured it a treat.
