I'm trying to purchase and download a sidegrade from Poser 7 to Poser Pro 2010.  The SmithMicro website is not responding, saying the webpage is no longer in existance.  Have I come in at the exact moment this sidegrade offer ($249.00) has been dropped?

That's an upgrade, not a sidegrade. I thought the sidegrade was if you own PPro and P8, you get PP2010 for something like $70 or $80.

There is a sidegrade price on the SM website from P8 to PP2010 for $249.

Anyway, can't you get PP2010 straight up for $259?

And every day at Amazon for $287.

I see people in the "why don't you use DS" thread talking about PP2010 at prices that are all over the map.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I missed the SM sales earlier this year. But that's a tempting price. Now you have me thinking.

But I'm also thinking it may be better to wait for Poser 9, given even your very limited previews.

If I were on the fence whether to buy right at the moment, I'd wait too. Poser 9 seems to be promising to be a real corker!

Previews? Don't get me in trouble. I haven't shown anything, and have not said any specific feature. smile

All I said was I won't use PP2010 anymore, now that I have the next version.

If you had no Poser at all, I'd say buy now, and then upgrade later. But you have P7.

And if you're into realism, you must get the Pro version. Material GC already is usable but wrong when used with IDL, and it's going to get more wrong. The linear rendering equation must be respected.

If you're into illustration, or tooning, or any other stylized imaging, I'd stick with P7.

Keep an eye out for SM coupons-I got PP2010 last summer for $130, IIRC, with a coupon...

Oh man, have I done it again?  Gone and bought an upgrade just before the new and improved version comes out?  So Poser 9 or Poser Pro 2011 is going to turn my newly purchased Poser Pro 2010 into a boat anchor?

My upgrade to Poser 8 served one purpose: to provide me with (roughly) a $125 side-grade opportunity to PP2010 when the coupon thingie was offered. Still have it around somewhere... not installed, of course. P7 is still installed. P8 was useless, pretty much. Extremely unstable, even with all the updates. Smith-Micro's Edsel (showing my age, now ).

Ah. Sorry. I should have said "extremely constrained hints of considerable improvements in completely unspecified matters." Or something to that effect.

I have Poser 8. My only complaint is instability in some renders, and 32 bit limitation. At least one of your suggestions has improved its performance considerably for me, though.

I won't ask you to predict the future. So how long after the release of the latest numerical version has it usually been before the pro version of same came out?
