Hello,
I have a question for all the render experts in poser8:
I purchased an item at RO wich seems to work well in all versions of Poser 8, but not in mine. If I load the item (it's hair) the preview shows up the hair perfectly, but when I begin to render there is only white at the place of the hair. I checked if all textures are in the right folders, that all files needed are in there place and I reinstalled the product, but the problem sill remains.
The person who made the item checked also and it is working well in his version of Poser 8.
Does somebody have any ideas where the problem could be? I think it's a pb in my poser or render settings, but I can't find what it is.
It works in Daz Studio 3....
Thanks so much for your help, I need this item for a commission.
Irene

Which hair is it BTW? Is it the default texture? Creators alternate texture or aftermarket? A simple texture node or complicated?
Have you tried making all the elements a simple colour only, rendering, then reapplying the required texture. Make sure all elements have Display/Element Style set to Use Figure Style and Display/Figure Style is set to USe Doc Style

Ok, I will try this. It's the default color from the set I bought. But it don't work anyway if I use textures provided in the pose gallery from the same package.
Take a look here if you want to see a area render: http://irenesfiles.free.fr/testrender.png

You look to have very very strong highlights on the body texture- is it caused by all the lights. Have you tried the hair with a simple light set- one or two infinite lights and not too bright.

Light setup, ans render settings required??
I would try with just one light in BB's free sfere
The texture is in the preview, so iut is no loading problem.

Way too many lights for this scene! We should take a look at the material room set up for this content. Also, you can upload the screencaps to the post rather than use a 3rd party site.

That is why I proposed a scene with only one light...
One infinite light and the sfere is all you'l usually need.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

since BB is trying to be funny and failing, I shall explain.
if you look in BB's free stuff link (bottom of his post) you will find a Light Meter for download with instructions on how to use it.

Or if you don't have signatures in posts enabled (like me), you should be able to find BB's lightmeter in the file cabinet at the link above.basicwiz posted Sun, 29 May 2011 at 12:31 PM
Another thing to check... make sure the hair loaded onto the body, not the genital or a clothing prop. When this happens (at least for me) you get all sorts of bizarre texture issues with hair.

Thanks to all of you for your answers. I will follow your advices and try with a simple light and the light meter.
And yes, I am sure that the hair is fitting on the head. I made this mistake so often that I take care each time when I apply hair.
Thanks again - I will keep you informed....

Well, the light meter don't seem to change something, nor the simple light. Here you can see the material room advanced settings, the preview, the area render and so on...hborre posted Sun, 29 May 2011 at 4:34 PM
Lets' disconnect the alt_specular for the moment and rerender the scene. Also, show us a render with the light meter included.
vilters posted Sun, 29 May 2011 at 5:12 PM
The light meter does NOT change anything. Correct.
But what did it look like??? It is an indicator, an instrument to measure.
Did you read the isntructions???
Ok one step at a time: and rerender area renders to confirm
Remove = disconnect alternate_specular: rerender result?
Set transpancy at .5, result?
Not knowing this hair? What for Uphair 2 and Uphair 1?
And, use only one infinite light = 1 light only!

Hello everybody,
Well, I began a new image with M4 base and the hair with the default light of Poser and miracle: it's working.
I really don't know what was happening with the other picture, but now i resolved the pb and I thank you all for your help and ideas.
timeswimmer posted Tue, 31 May 2011 at 7:05 PM
Looks to me like a problem I had with Aiko hair...I checked in the menu under Display and found that bringing in the product changed the Element style from Texture-Shaded to Wireframe. Simply changing it back solved the problem.
ICRDesign posted Wed, 01 June 2011 at 2:05 AM
Yes, perhaps it was this, but why it is working in a new poser image with the original light of Poser? I don't understand what happend, but now it's working really fine and that's what's important for me. Thanks anyway for the idea. If ever I encounter the same pb I will check this at first.
