Hello All.

I am very slowly learning Poser 8.

I have made progress by learning how to parent hair to a character's head and so "stick" it on. If I am wrong there please correct me... re other more appropriate ways of attaching hair to the head.

My question concerns this: when looking at characters on the DAZ site, it often states that the figure needs, eg., Morps++ to make that new character work.

Does this mean I need to buy that "Morphs" before I buy the new character...

And if so, could you explain what Morphs does, etc.

I appologize if this appears to be a superficial question. I am reading my Poser manuals, but it is almost impossible to find some answers sometimes. And often I re-read and only slowly does a passage make sense.

Thanks.

Randy

The DAZ people are usually sold (if not free) as a base with limited morphs and a set of morphs is sold as an add-on package.   So, yes, you would need to buy that morph expansion for the character you want to use.

For example, here's the Morphs++ for V4:  http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/victoria-4-2?item=4787&spmeta=rl&_m=d

Morphs change the shape of all the elements of a figure or an expression: nose, eyes, head, hips, bewbs, etc ;). It's what's used to make that one model look like many different people or to make the figure smile, blink, open it's mouth. In Poser, there are dials in the body part properties panel that when changed, makes the morph get stronger or weaker. You can make your own unique characters that way. The characters that you see for purchase are normally a figure with the morph packs whos dials have been spun into a unique figure. They also normally come with a skin texture as well.

Most V4 character sets use morphs++.  Now you can use the texture and maybe the face (if it isn't dialed) without them, but the overall body won't look the same.

If the hair is a prop (usually under Props or Hair) you would parent it to the figure's head.  If it is a conforming figure (usually under Figures) you would conform it.

The included Poser 8 (and Poser 6&7, too) figures can be taken into the Face Room and you can adjust their facial apperance there.
