Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

how do you get the Blue Plasma worked out?

I used nested poser spheres, stretched out into an ellipse shape. The shader for them was in my first post in that thread.
Quoting myself:
Quote - I used a sphere, which I scaled double wide in X. Then I duplicated it and set the Scale to 97%. Then dup'ed again at 94%, next 91%, 88%. In other words, the spacing should be about 3% of the overall size.
If your prop is 800 feet long, then 1/4 inch gap would be silly as nobody would be viewing it that close.
