I would like to modify some clothes used in my Poser program.
For example would it be possible to make a pair of shorts from a pair of jeans by somehow cutting off the legs?
Best I could do was to group sections together and make this invisible.
Problem is that you can on select a section so it is not a accurate way to do it.
I would also like to put fraid edges on them if possible.
I attach pic of the clothing I am trying to alter
Any advice appreciated.
I am a amateur Poser user so step by step advice appreciated.
I aslo have photoshop
Thanks in advance

The easiest way to alter - what you want to do - clothing is in the texture file. In the material room, under Advanced, have a look at the file and path of that image. You'll want to create a trans-map and alternative image file (always work on a copy!) ... there are heaps of tutorials on how to do this in Rendo's tutorial section and Daz's as well.

another quickie might be to see if the legs are more than one group. If you click on the bottom part of the pants, just uncheck 'visible' in the properties, and instant shorts...;)

many thanks for your reply.
From the information you gave I thought that information and tutorials for trans-map and alternative image would be easily found
See attach screenshot of a google search for 3d transmap, there is nothing relevant.
Could you please be a bit more specific, please note I am a bit of a amateur with Poser.
pakled many thanks for your suggestion but using groups and making them invisable does not give me the accuracy I need
Thanks

For retexturing clothes I highly recommend Stitchwitch, a really easy and useful program.

Using the jeans texture I added a layer to make the fringe and saved as a new texture map. Then I made anything I wanted transparent black and the parts I wanted to preserve were made white including the layer with the fringe. Make sure it's totally black though or you'll get artifacts. Then just load your new texture map in the diffuse channel on an image node and your transparency map in the transparency channel making sure you set transparency to 1.000 and falloff and edge to 0.

transparency map may give you better results.
its a simple black and white image where white is visible and black is transparent. Use the texture teplate as a guide.
If you make or modify a bump map for the pants you can make an edge that will look like a proper turned up edge.

Hi
Using transmaps will let you do more then just cutting off the legs too.
You can make holes in them and have edges that are frayed and have a natural look.
Combine that with editing the Texture file in a program like Photo Shop (make a copy and save it under a new name) and you can fade the edges, and get lots of different looks out of the basic clothing!
