The first one Tom. The bench is very distracting.

In looking back, I agree about the bench. Had a suitable person been sitting sideways on the bench it might have worked in to some sort of art look but as is I now will stay with the first one, just the land(and river)scape. Your thoughts and honesty are appreciated. Tom.

Well Blinking gave the answer.
I do like both captures.
God Bless.

I also agree with blinkings, no bench, which is disturbing the peace.
It's a beautiful mood on it, Tom. Great shot!

I agree - the one without the bench!
It is a lovely shot Tom!

It would be interesting to see had you moved a few steps to the left and included the entire bench how it would stack up against the first image.
But as they stand, I go with the first one too
They say a picture is
worth a thousand words...
So where do they go when a photograph leaves you
speechless?

Croped image fill unbalanced, propobly botom goround angle pull to right all composition. Also composition doesnot have any point of intrest, so eyes jumping around with out concetrating on any point. Adding fisherman in boat on left side will balanced agains ground and add point of intrest. But this if you want modify it.
Uncroped image have better balance by adding heavy object on left, this fill more stable, but it is not intrested and take too match attention from all scenery.
I understend your question about both images, one fill right but unatractive bench , other beatifull but boring and unbalanced.
Version with bench can be fixed, by placing item on bench, that would give some story beghind. Adding a single flower, hat, or color point - red ball. will bring more character to it.
How I sad at begining this is very good shoot, time, lighting. The sugestions personal and if I took this photo , it would be in my "Very nice" collection of images.
Thank you for sharing.

geekatplay, your diagrams and analysis are interesting. I had mentioned in a following post that a "person" in proper position on the bench could make it work...then the photo would not be a landscape scene but more of a photo in which a viewer might say, "humm...I wonder what exactly he is saying here." The mood would change focus dramatically.
I am fascinated by details in compositon which make or break a photo and which may have power to alter the entire mood when neatly applied.
As for the fisherman, on that evening none were cooperative enough to be in my photo, prefering to fish further upstream a while and race the fog to shore.

I like this panorama shot, and because I think the shot just with the mist, mountains, and water has enough subject in itself that the bench doesnt need to be there. Agree, just too distracting.
Great shot
