In a previous poser version, don't remember which one I was able to save out a pic with no background. Now can't remember how. Thought if I saved it as a png that would do it but not working. Anyone able to help with this?

You said it - save as PNG. So there is something you did that you're not telling.
For example, did you fill the area behind the subject with a prop such as an environment sphere? In that case, the entire render is filled with "something", there is no area which is "nothing", and the result is you have no transparent pixels.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

No the only thing I just thought of is I didn't get rid of the floor. Thank you for jarring my brain!

Nope just tried it again poser 8 nothing in the scene and exported the image as a png and still getting the background also a black square in the upper right. The settings are default exept for exporting as a png.

LOL - if you had posted it here as proof, you would have seen it was transparent.
