Select a door go to its attributes, select "show origin handle" then you will see a green dot on the center of your door, use your cursor to select the green dot and drag it to the edge of the door on the hinges side, now whenever you rotate it will pivot from that side.
Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

It beggars belief that in all these years I've never figured out how to do that...some times I wonder at me...thanks clay.. ...

This sounded like something that should be pretty easy to do but I couldn't see a green dot on the doors in v7 no matter what I did. Ended up using Bryce5 & it was a piece of cake.
Clay.. Could you give me a link to the animation work book? Not sure if my brain is ready for that or not but I'd like to try it.

Hmm I can see the green origin handle(dot) in V7 and V7.1
Yes, but I do know what Ravyns means though Clay, cos sometimes that tiny green dot is hidden by the wireframe - in my opinion that needs to be made much MUCH more visible - if you ask Bryce to make it visible it should actually be visible, and not so tiny it can be abscured by the wireframe.
I think I'll add that to the feature request..... It's worth a try.

Clay, I was looking at your workbooks - and it seems you need the files to work through these tutorials - but I can't find the files. - they are not in the zip.
Is there a link to those somewhere?

Yup, and as the likelyhood of such a thing ever being implemented is dependent on how many people ask for it, perhaps, you could nip over here:
https://bugs.daz3d.com/view.php?id=42848
and add your voice to this request?

Yes. We need a big dot for people with poor eyesight like me..
I tried to report the bug but it won't let me past the log in. I assumed it was the DAZ user name or email addy & password but it didn't work so I made a new account .. They have yet to send me a confirmation email.
Thanks for the link to the workbooks clay. I don't know why I didn't see them in the freestuff before. Will try to animate something as soon as I get time.

It wouldn't let me submit bugs even when Bryce crashes, which it seems to do a lot of here lately. Pretty sure it's me adding too much to a scene that's causing it. I tend to like using too many details but you never know..

Quote - Its the bug tracker, its not for everyones public use.
Oh yes it is for everyone's public use, but you just can't log into it using the same login as for the daz forums, you need one just for the BugTracker. Anyone who has Bryce, Carrara, DazStudio or Hexagon, (and quite a few other things looking at the list there!) can report a bug or request a feature.
Anyone.
But you do need to sign up for a different name and password, that's all.

Clay, that's on Mantis.
It is not however a forum for just anything, it is just for feature requests and bug reporting - don't expect to be able to talk about Great Aunt Matilda just down the road. Lol!

I use a primitive (cylinder) from Bryce, situated at the pivot point where I want the doors to open. The meshes for the door are grouped and linked to that cylinder, which itself is linked to the rest of the car (also grouped)Then I can simply rotate the cylinder "hinge" and the door follows. The cylinder is made invisible in the atributes window.I enclose a link to one of my products in the store that uses this Bryce rigging....I give the hinges different families so they are easier to select.
LOL, I never saw the green dot in all these years!Bryce allways so full of surprises...

Ravyn,
You need to sign up for an account on Mantis, and you need a different username and password than the one that you use for the daz forums - they are not the same. Once you register, you should then be able to post bug reports easily.

Quote - Yes, I tried several years ago to rig an airplane that way, but the dihedral angle of the wings made it impossible for me to get done.
I just looked up "dihedral angle" and I still don't understand it.

BTW I suck at anything math, but I can do 3D stuff, I've always told students and people who ask me questions, "when you're working in 3D its like being thrown into a dark room into a swimming pool, you are un adjusted for a few moments, but then your senses come about you and you come to the surface, although you still don't know north south east or west you do have your bearings about you, you atleats have up and down at that point, does that make any sense?
Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!
I usually say, what if you could climb into your TV screen and build absolutely anything just by waving your hand. or, you see those video games? I can make the buildings the cars race around.....

Well.... up and down makes sense, yes. and the bit about the dihedral angle of 4 atoms - I could understand that okay, but it's like I can only hold so many wierd things in my head at a time, push hard enough to get another one in and one of those you thought you'd got, just floats out of the window.
Like I can do quadratic equations if I have an example in front of me, but I can't remember how to do one without that - it's like numbers just won't stay in my head... words do, but not numbers, (could be why I like writing so much).
Oh and Bryster? Yeah, I'd love to be able to make a 3d object just by standing in 3D space and waving my hands about... the trouble is, if you did that as vaguely as that sounds, you'd get a 3d object alright, but it'd be a mess.
It's like... well we are not robots, we are human beings, and it's like you need to be able to place your fingertip on one exact position in 3D space, and move your body around it, while keeping that fingertip exactly over the same spot all the time - try it at home - pick something where there's space to move around it, - on your desk, in the kitchen sink, on the coffee table - anywhere - that pen in front of you, place your fingertip over the lead point, even if you start from a standing position, it's just not possible to keep your fingertip in the same position while you move around it.
So we need precision, and that means numbers - unfortunately.
and I still don't know what dihedral means - I can't picture it in my head.
Aha, I've found it, it means "two surfaces", di being two and hedral being "surfaces" - nothing helpful in any of the online dictionaries, but I found it on a Dungeons and Dragons website - weird!

Quote - Wanna see a Bryce Animation? Landing Gear and lights.
The sky is moving incredibly fast compared to the spaceship, and that changes the light so much that it's hard to see the landing gear locking into place, so much so that I didn't even notice the lights at all - otherwise it's a nice smooth action.
It's a very Bryce-like thing - having super fast skies.
