but following these instructions didn't clean out my flyout brush menu. now it just says it can't find the such and such path to the brushes i moved :tt2:

could someone please tell me how to clean the flyout menu? i want to be able to see all the brushes i've installed. and i installed some really goofy ones and want to get them out of that list.

for clarification, the flyout menu for the brushes comes when i select the Brush tool, click on the arrow and get to the menu that shows up and says Load Brush, Replace Brushes, etc.

i am using Photoshop CS2.

i've always gone to my CS(vers#)/Presets/Brushes folder/directory and dragged my unwanted .abr (brushes) files out.

you'll need to relaunch PS to have the brush table reload... if it still shows the brushes, toss out your PS pref file. this will force PS to reload all the settings and tables...

thank you so much for responding. i've been haunting this board hopefully all day since posting.

the dragging of files didn't work. i reloaded the program and it didn't unload that flyout menu.

where do i find the preference file? please.

The best way to clear out individual brushes is to use your Preset Manager. You can then create your own Brush Set.

If you want to clear out all the brushes you click Reset Brushes. This will default to the first Brush Set in the list (Assorted Brushes).

If you don't want a Brush Set to appear in the drop down list then it has to be taken out of Preset/Brushes directory. You then have to restart Photoshop.

i'm afraid that didn't work, taking the abr files out of the preset directory they were in. all that did was make the flyout menu options say "file not found", etc. i will try again and this time try restarting the whole computer. it's a big issue for me as i collect brushes like some people collect Poser freebies :lol:

alright THIS finally worked. i had to clean the brushes out of the preset directory completely (previously i had put them in a special folder within the directory but out of their actual places), and then restart the entire system. weee!

this is so amazing! a clean menu! that i can decorate MY way! it's been years!!!

I keep all my brushes, actions, plug-ins etc  in a separate folders in a folder I call Extras (totally outside the Preset directory). Then I load what I want into Photoshop. I keep the original Presets as is. I know what's mine and what's theirs!
