Subject: Upgrade/Sidegrade and my old runtime

I don't want to assume anything, and I don't see this question asked, so someone slap me if this is a no brainer that I should probably know the answer to: will my Poser 8 runtime function in Poser 9, or will I lose a lot of content? I have a lot of things that I really like in there.

I can't see it not working, but don't know for sure.  Sharen

You should be able to point your new app at the old runtimes the same as any other external runtime.

Just remember that if you have Python scripts, you need to copy them to the new main Poser runtime.

Works like a charm!

Worked for me too. I have several runtimes, I just added them to Pro 2012 and they were ready to go. Just add any old runtime as additional runtime, and you are ready to go.

About the python scripts mentioned above - if you have compiled python scripts (.pyc), you will need new versions from the vendor. Only scripts in source code (.py) will still work.

Apparently, SMS has done another update to Python so compiled scripts for P8 will need to recompiled by vendors.

PhilC has updated most of his already and has a page to request updates if you need them.

Other vendors may or may not do updates.  I was very annoyed when faceoff wouldn't update his realism kits and other pythons but given the new SSS and other options, I don't think I'm going to need them.

Like with the release of P8, it may be hit or miss.  I always check the extention.

Quote - Python scripts compiled for P7 or lower don't work in P8 or above.

If the Python was compiled for P8 or better, it works in P9 and up.

There was nothing in what's new readme info that indicated SMS had made any further changes to Python.

Incorrect. P9 has Python 2.7 and complains about P8 pyc files.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I was correcting it when you posted.  There's so much added that's it's hard to keep track.  My bad.
